SUMMARY: Under the general supervision of the Airport Operations Manager, performs electrical work for the airport. Essential characteristics of this position are the ability to provide repair and maintain service to the airfield and runway electrical circuits, illuminated signage, and vault work. Must be able to communicate by radio with Control Tower; and have the ability to work outside in a variety of conditions. Must be able to read and interpret blueprints and specifications. Must ensure compliance with FAA, DOT, local, state and federal regulations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Plans layout, installs, inspects, and maintains lighting systems, lights, and beacons at airport or flying field in compliance with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) recommendations: Inspects lighting systems and advises Airport Operations Manager of need to repair or upgrade airport lighting systems.
  • Inspects beacon and lights, such as boundary, runway, obstacle, and airport-control lights, replacing defective lenses or bulbs and cleaning or repairing equipment.
  • May drive and operate floodlight truck at crashes or other emergencies.
  • May place warning flares about airfield during power failure or emergency.
  • May be on constant call to make emergency repairs.

· Directs routine and non-routine inspection and electrical maintenance of the airfield, terminal and parking lots on airport grounds on a frequent basis to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the airport, and to determine electrical maintenance needs and plan work procedures.

· Schedules, coordinates and approves contract labor activities.

· Recommends the use of contracted electrical and firms for situations other than routine, operational maintenance. Coordinates the activities of contracted services. Inspects contracted jobs. Acts as liaison between contractors and County/City Code Enforcement.

· Responds to work orders and emergency requests to move, change, install, repair, remove or terminate electrical lines and equipment.

· Reads technical manuals to learn correct settings for equipment.

· Modifies equipment in accordance with user requests and factory directives.

· Troubleshoots, tests and maintains various electrical systems to ensure proper operation.

· Assists in the preparation and review of floor plans, blue prints and schematics.

· Advises Airport Management of needed equipment and supplies.

· Assists Airport Management in other duties as assigned.

· May be required to perform any other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; five years’ experience in the electrical field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals, Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Must be a Licensed Electrician and maintain a valid IN/IL driver's license as a condition of employment.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $60,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
