ELECTRICIAN/MAINTENANCE WORKER
BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of the Director of Maintenance, Operations and Transportation (MOT),
perform journey-level electrical work involving the repair, alteration, construction, installation and maintenance of a variety of electrical systems and equipment and other general maintenance work as required.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:
● Perform journey-level work in the installation, repair, alteration or construction of a variety of electrical work according to specifications and codes.
● Design, install, maintain and repair intercom systems, including call buttons, speakers,
panels, and related wiring.
● Inspect and verify work needed to be performed; plan work from sketches, drawings, and
blueprints; estimate time and material needed; requisition needed materials.
● Install, repair and replace lighting fixtures, including ballast, transformers, lamp holders,
lamps, capacitors, lenses and related equipment and wiring.
● Install, repair and maintain high and low voltage electrical systems and equipment in schools and other sites including light, intercom, clock, alarm, signal, public address, control, intrusion and fire detection systems, electric motors, welders, mechanisms and other electrical equipment.
● Design, install, maintain and repair security and fire alarm systems, such as smoke detectors, heat detectors, strobe lights, horns and related components.
● Operate and maintain a variety of specialized equipment, hand and power tools, including hydraulic lift, hydraulic conduit bender, power activated tools, saws, test equipment and
meters.
● Drive to various District locations; other general maintenance repair work, and other related duties as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS: Minimum Qualifications:
● KNOWLEDGE OF: Tools, materials and the electrical trade; Federal, State, and local
regulations pertaining to electrical standards and related codes; safety practices and
regulations pertaining to the electrical trade; design, construction, installation and
maintenance of electrical apparatus and equipment; technical aspects of field of specialty.
● ABILITY TO: Perform journey-level electrical work involving the repair, alteration,
construction, installation and maintenance of a variety of electrical systems and equipment;
plan layout, assembly, installation testing and repair of electrical systems; read and interpret
blueprints, plans, drawings and specifications; make sketches and diagrams of electrical work
and make accurate job estimates of materials and labor; work effectively with supervisors,
school personnel and others; work from work orders and verbal instructions; apply shop math
accurately and correctly; understand and follow oral and written instructions.
● EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: any combination equivalent to graduation from high school
supplemented by completion of a recognized electrician apprenticeship program and three
years journey-level experience in electrical installation, alteration and repair work.
● LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Valid California driver’s license.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
ENVIRONMENT: Indoor and outdoor work environment; driving a vehicle to conduct work;
seasonal heat and cold or adverse weather conditions.
PHYSICAL ABILITIES: Lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling heavy objects; hearing and speaking
to exchange information; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate hand and power electrical tools and equipment used in the electrical trade; climbing ladders; seeing to perform electrical work; reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally.
HAZARDS: Electrical power supply and high voltage; working at heights.

SALARY: Range 26
OVERTIME STATUS: Non-exempt
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $31.95 - $42.82 per hour
