Minimum of a Masters degree in education or related discipline from US accredited university or college.

Must have Strong background in science, with a focus on teaching science effectively at the elementary school level

Knowledge of NY State Learning Standards

Must have appropriate credentials as designated by New York State Education Department and in accordance with definitions and requirements to be designated a highly qualified and certified teacher as defined by NCLB.

Must be authorized to work at OWN Charter Schools through appropriate NYSED fingerprint clearance

Must demonstrate competency in all areas of content responsibility and be computer literate

Must be able to:

OWNCS Elementary School, located in Astoria, Queens seeks to provide students with a first-class learning experience that maximizes their intellectual, social, emotional, and physical development, including the development of their ability to apply their intellect to solving problems and contribute to their communities as enlightened and responsible citizens.

OWNCS seeks a STEAM teacher who will collaborate with a dynamic team of educators to provide project based learning experiences for K-5th grade students. The STEAM teacher’s primary job will be to facilitate developmentally appropriate STEAM learning activities, experiences and assessments to foster intellectual, physical and social growth, targeting New York State Learning Standards.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Demonstrate the ability to model, deliver, and craft rich student-centered learning experiences around Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math.
  • Demonstrate the ability to create and implement strategies for weaving STEAM experiences into multi-disciplinary curricula from grades K through 5.
  • Work in partnership with teachers and staff, modeling consistent effective teaching with technology, engagement, lesson plan design, use of technology, STEAM and online tools.
  • Demonstrate fundamental knowledge of the connection between technology, computer science, and other fields of study.
  • Facilitate “hands-on” experiments and projects that allow students to learn by doing and exploring.
  • Implement instructional activities that contribute to a climate where students are actively engaged in meaningful learning experiences.
  • Identify, select, and modify instructional resources to meet the needs of the students with varying backgrounds, learning styles, and special needs.
  • Assist in assessing changing curricular needs and offer plans for improvement.
  • Maintain effective and efficient record keeping procedures.
  • Provide a positive environment in which students are encouraged to be actively engaged in the learning process.
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with students, parents, and other professionals on a regular basis.

Pay & Benefits

Salary

Salary Range: $69,888 – $115,136 based on education, certification, years of relevant experience, and verified prior service, in alignment with the OWNCS salary scale.

Employees with 30 credits beyond a master’s degree (MA +30) may be eligible for additional compensation in accordance with the salary schedule.

Schedule

This is a 10-month instructional position, with salary and benefits distributed evenly over 12 months to ensure consistent income and year-round coverage.
