Join us as a math teacher in an innovative school in Austin that takes teaching very seriously, on a team that loves working together. This is the dream job for anyone who is passionate about teaching, strives to teach mathematics as a coherent discipline, and wants to work with fellow educators who are optimistic, collaborative, and dedicated. This position is full-time, with a one-week summer commitment for PD. During the school year, you will be leading one group or “band” of learners: 3 classes a week, for a total of 5 hours of instruction time. You will either be leading an elementary group (2nd-3rd or 4th-5th) or a middle school group (5th-6th or 7th-8th), depending on your background. All age groups operate at a higher level than in many schools; the Long-View/Number Lab approach supports depth, reasoning, and connections across mathematical ideas. It is not based on a prescribed textbook or curriculum.Long-View’s schedule supports high level learning and allows teachers to do their best work: you will only teach and will be focused on. This means more professional interaction with colleagues, more time to research, plan, and evaluate student work, and more time to invest in the big picture of the school. Plus, our school is 4 days a week. On Fridays our teaching team has a standing morning meeting and then meets in departments or utilizes the afternoon for planning/prep time. Because we have a well-developed pedagogy and content trajectory for the teaching of mathematics, preference will be given to applicants who have attended The Number Lab [Co]lab, subscribe to Learning for The Long-View platform, or in some other way demonstrated interest in our approach.CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
