The Johnson City Schools is looking for a Bookkeeper to perform basic budget, accounting and purchasing functions of the school system, and assist with secretarial duties at South Side Elementary School.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Maintain Accounts Payable/Receivable according to school system guidelines;

2. Perform routine purchasing duties;

3. Receive shipments and send to proper departments;

4. Prepare and maintain basic financial records;

5. Perform secretarial and clerical duties which require general knowledge of various school system functions, policies and procedures;

6. Assist in making arrangements for meetings, scheduling appointments and maintaining calendars;

7. Prepare and maintain basic accounting and financial records as needed;

8. Interface with various vendors;

9. Maintain office/student files and records;

10. Assemble data for the purpose of preparing reports;

11. Assume responsibility for knowing and following safety rules and proper procedures associated with the job;

12. Maintain an inventory of office and/or school supplies;

13. Maintain a good working relationship with co-workers and the general public and to use good judgment in recognizing scope of authority;

14. Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Ability to read, write, speak and understand English;

2. Minimum of a high school diploma; some college/business school preferred;

3. Knowledge of accounting principles, methods and procedures;

4. Secretarial and computer skills; and

5. Such alternative to the above qualifications as the Superintendent of Schools may find appropriate and acceptable.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This job may require occasional lifting and carrying of objects weighing up to 50 lbs., with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 lbs. Other physical demands that may be required are as follows:

1. Lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling;

2. Climbing and/or balancing;

3. Stooping, kneeling and/or crawling;

4. Reaching;

5. Talking, hearing;

6. Vision, correctable to 20/20.

Compensation shall be in accordance with the salary schedule for the position as adopted by the Board.

Pay: From $18.21 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
