Position: First Grade Elementary School Teacher
Schedule: 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Overview
Zucker Jewish Academy seeks an experienced, compassionate, and mission-driven First Grade Teacher to join our General Studies faculty. The successful candidate will deliver excellent instruction in English Language Arts and Mathematics, foster a warm and inclusive classroom environment, and integrate the school’s commitment to Jewish values, identity, and ethics into the life of the school community.
Responsibilities
Instruction & Curriculum
- Plan, prepare, and deliver daily lessons in English Language Arts and Mathematics, aligned with Zucker’s academic standards and curricular expectations.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of learners with varying abilities, and scaffold learning to support both accelerated and remedial growth.
- Use both formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress, and provide timely, constructive feedback.
- Integrate opportunities for cross-disciplinary and project-based learning where appropriate.
Classroom Environment & Culture
- Establish and maintain a safe, nurturing, and respectful classroom culture in which students feel valued and supported.
- Promote Jewish identity, ethics, and values (“middot”) in daily interactions, helping students internalize respect, kindness, integrity, and responsibility.
- Model “derech eretz” (proper conduct) and moral character in all professional settings.
- Foster a love for learning, curiosity, and a growth mindset among students.
Jewish Mission & Integration
- While the primary teaching responsibilities are in English and Math, collaborate with Judaic Studies faculty to strengthen the school-wide mission of building Jewish identity, ethics, and connection to heritage.
- Understand and support Zucker’s Judaic vision: a skills-based, hands-on program in a warm environment, with goals of strong Jewish identity, ethical values, Hebrew literacy, and connection to community and Israel. zjavalley.org
- Be prepared to incorporate language, values, or cultural/holiday content (where appropriate) into classroom life as aligned with school programs.
Collaboration & Communication
- Work collaboratively with grade-level colleagues, Judaic Studies staff, and the wider faculty to ensure alignment, continuity, and integration across students’ educational experience.
- Maintain regular, clear communication with parents/guardians about student progress, behavior, and classroom events.
- Participate in faculty meetings, professional development sessions, school-wide assemblies, and special events.
- Uphold and contribute to Zucker Jewish Academy’s mission, vision, and values, serving as a role model within the school community.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Elementary Education, or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- Valid teaching credential or eligibility for certification.
- Experience teaching at the elementary level (ideally first grade).
- Strong skills in classroom management, differentiation, assessment, and student engagement.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with ability to partner with families.
- Demonstrated commitment to Jewish values, community, and education (preferred).
