JOB DESCRIPTION
Position: Substitute Elementary & Middle School Teacher
Reports To: Head of School
Job Purpose:
The Substitute Teacher shall be a Christ-like example, stepping in when the regular classroom teacher is absent to ensure a safe, respectful, and Christ-centered learning environment. The Substitute Teacher will follow lesson plans provided by the regular teacher, support students academically and spiritually, and model biblical character and servant leadership.

Hourly: Part-Time, As Needed (Non-Exempt)
SALARY RANGE:
$20.00 an hour

Essential Job Requirements
The Substitute Elementary & Middle School Teacher shall:
- Instruction: Teach core subjects such as Bible, math, reading, language arts, science, and social studies using lesson plans provided by the full-time teacher.
- Classroom Management: Maintain order and a respectful classroom environment consistent with school policies and Christian values.
- Faith Integration: Model Christ-like behavior, and when applicable, lead prayer or devotionals in alignment with classroom expectations.
- Student Supervision: Monitor students’ activities and behavior inside the classroom and during transitions such as recess, lunch, or hallway movement.
- Professionalism: Arrive on time, be prepared, and maintain open communication with school leadership regarding any concerns or incidents.
- Record Keeping: Take attendance, distribute assignments, and document any classroom issues or deviations from plans as needed.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree preferred (degree in Education or related field is ideal).
- Certification: Teaching credential preferred but not required for short-term or emergency substitute positions.
- Experience: Previous experience working with children in a school or ministry setting is strongly preferred.

- Able to manage a classroom with confidence, compassion, and consistency
- Clear communicator with good organizational skills
- Familiar with age-appropriate instructional methods
- Able to reflect the love of Christ in daily interactions
- Willingness to teach across various grade levels (K–8) as needed
Classification:
- Hourly, part-time substitute position
- Scheduled based on availability and school need
- Work hours typically follow the school day schedule (approx. 7:45 AM – 3:15 PM)
Accountability:
- Reports to the Head of School and Division Heads
- Expected to follow lesson plans and routines set by the regular classroom teacher
- Responsible for upholding the academic and spiritual standards of Bethany Christian School during all assignments

Pay: $20.00 per hour
Expected hours: No more than 20 per week
