PURPOSE OF THE POSITION: An ESL Associate translates documents and interprets conversations from English to a student/family's first language and from a student/family's first language to English. Additional responsibilities include assisting teachers with working with ESL families, instructional groups, clerical, supervision, and other supportive duties.
7.5 hrs/day
Beginning Hourly Rate: $19.86/hr
This position is full-time during the school year and is eligible for health insurance benefits.

QUALIFICATIONS -

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

Translate written materials and interpret conversations to and from English.

Knowledge of English language development.

Knowledge of different cultures and ability to share that knowledge with students and staff.

Ability to work effectively with English Learner students, families, and school staff.

Ability to assist individual students or groups with academic tasks.
-
Ability to collaborate with ESL and general education teachers.
-
Understanding and application of classroom and building procedures.
-
Ability to follow directions and work independently.

Strong oral and written communication skills.

Ability to maintain accurate student records and confidentiality.
-
Ability to use technology, including Google Docs, Sheets, and Forms.

Ability to maintain an orderly classroom and assist with student supervision.
Education
-
High School Diploma or equivalent required.
-
Paraeducator certificate desired.
Experience
-
Experience with translating and interpreting.
-
Successful experience working with students preferred.
Equipment
-
Proficient in using office equipment such as phones, copiers, and computers.

Familiarity with Google Docs, Sheets, and Forms preferred.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES -

Translate and interpret between English and other languages.

Act as a liaison between the school and English Learner families.

Assist with classroom routines and supervision.

Support students academically as directed by teachers.

Maintain confidentiality and accurate records.

Use technology tools effectively.

Administer individual tests when needed.

Support a positive and organized learning environment.

Perform other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISION OF OTHERS -
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS -

Satisfactory health as certified by a competent medical authority upon hire.

Repetitious bending, lifting, and hand movement.

Ability to work while standing, moving and/or walking.

Must be able to see and hear within normal limits with or without corrective lenses or hearing aids.

Ability to operate a motor vehicle used to travel between sites
WORKING CONDITIONS -

Majority of work is performed in an office or school setting.

Occasional meetings outside the school day.

Occasional exposure to body fluids, fumes, noise, and hazardous materials and emergency situations.
