The FASNY Lower School seeks an educator who loves working with children and is eager to collaborate with other like-minded teachers. As part of a bilingual, dual language program, in an international school, our students take French and English classes every day. The curriculum includes reading, writing, science and social studies in English.
ELL Teacher Responsibilities
The responsibilities of an elementary English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher are diverse, focusing on language acquisition, academic support, and cultural integration for young English Language Learners (ELLs).

Teaching English Language Skills:

Develop and deliver lesson plans targeting proficiency in the four domains: listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

Focus on both communicative (social) English and academic language needed for success in content areas.

Providing Differentiated Instruction:
-
Tailor instruction, materials, and assignments based on students' individual English language proficiency levels (e.g., beginner, intermediate).

Offer individual or small-group instruction ("pull-out" or "push-in" support) to target specific language needs.

Assessing Language Proficiency:
-
Administer language screeners to newly enrolled students to determine eligibility for services.

Conduct formal and informal assessments to monitor students' progress toward language goals.

Record Keeping:

Maintain accurate and complete records of student progress, attendance, grades, and language proficiency data.

Consulting with Classroom Teachers:

Collaborate/co-plan with general education teachers to modify curriculum, materials, and assessments to make grade-level content accessible for ELLs.

Provide colleagues with information and professional development on best practices for scaffolding instruction and supporting language learners.

Communication with Families:

Serve as a liaison between the school and ELL families.

Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress, needs, and school events, often with the help of translators.

Promote family involvement in their child's education and school community.
FASNY teachers harmonize their lessons with French colleagues, differentiate classroom lessons regularly, and collaborate and share methods with colleagues. We assess students’ progress regularly with regard to their learning objectives and we use interactive tools such as games, visual aids, iPads, and chromebooks in the classrooms. We foster confidence in individual students, maintain a welcoming classroom environment, and develop a positive classroom community that fosters inclusivity and engagement.
As a member of the FASNY community, teachers are expected to work in a team for the benefit of the students, stay in touch with parents to support student progress, and monitor students in a variety of educational environments. Educators at FASNY support other classroom teachers and participate in regularly scheduled meetings and professional development activities.
Bachelor’s degree required. Master's degree preferred.
Experience in teaching Lower School English at general education and honors level preferred.
Strong classroom management and organizational skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
Enthusiasm for fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment.
Commitment to ongoing professional development and reflective practice.
