Job Title: Emergency Medicine Assistant Consultant

JOB SUMMARY
An Assistant Consultant Emergency Medicine provides direct clinical care, supervises junior staff and residents, assists with departmental operations and policy development, participates in training and education, and contributes to quality improvement and administrative functions within the emergency department. The role requires extensive clinical skills in managing life-threatening conditions and injuries, strong leadership and communication skills, and a commitment to ongoing professional development.
Responsibilities
- Assists in the oversight of the daily operation of his assigned shift in the ED and ED related areas.
- Assists in developing departmental goals and objectives.
- Assists in the design, implementation, reviews and updates of Policies and Procedures for the ED every 2 years.
- Orients and keeps himself updated regarding the most currently revised hospital and department policies, procedures, standards and rules.
- Orients, advises and updates members / colleagues in the ED regarding the most currently revised hospital and department policies, procedures, standards and regulations.
- Adheres to hospital department regulations pertaining to essential medical ED chart documentation, utilization of personal ID stamps and hospital electronic medical records applications as designated in current phase.
- Maintains certification status (BLS, ACLS, ATLS, PALS, NRP and VIS course) updated as well as maintaining required CME credits for SCHS.
- Participates in the implementation of the ED Performance Improvement Plan (PIP); criteria, standards and indicators to evaluate, monitor, and implement changes to improve the quality and appropriateness of practice by the department in accordance with JCIA standards.
- Participates and attends assigned hospital committees.
- Monitors, interprets and reports on utilization and productivity statistics.
- Assists in delegating appropriate duties and responsibilities to staff within the department commensurate with their education, experience and job description.
- Liaison and coordination on operational issues with the Nursing Division Leadership.
- Liaison and coordination oversight with Patient Relations on patient complaints, sick leave issuance, medical report issuance and follow-up.
- Assists and leads in training and education of junior staff to maintain skill levels.
- Assists in conducting annual performance appraisals of ED department staff as requested by ED Chairman.
- Becomes familiar with and understands role expectations during Disaster Response (Code Black); participates and leads in the implementation of medical contingency disaster plans for the ED, including medical operations oversight, emergency response and medical evacuation during the clinical shift.
- Assists junior ED members in the care of patients requiring special skills due to the severity of presenting complaints; authenticates disposition and plan of management of all patients in the Emergency Department.
- Residency Training Program participation, active participation in training and evaluation within the department.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Chairman, Department of Emergency Medicine within the post-holder's qualifications and capabilities.

Required Qualifications
Education
- Graduate from a medical school of good standing
- Completion of required training in emergency medicine
- Arab Jordanian, Egyptian Board certification in emergency medicine or equivalent
- Membership and/or Fellowship or equivalent and fulfilling criteria for the consultant as required
- Certificate recognized by the Saudi Commission is a must
- Dataflow is a must
Professional Experience
- Minimum 5 years post-Board/Fellowship in ER
- A registered member of the Saudi Board Council
Language
- Proficiency in English; additional proficiency in Arabic may be beneficial
