Job Purpose & Position Overview

Acting under the authority of the Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska, the Winnebago Comprehensive Healthcare System (WCHS) will be responsible for the day-to-day operation and management of the Twelve Clans Unity Hospital (TCUH) and its associated programs. The Hospital is a 13-bed inpatient facility with an active emergency department. Twelve Clans does not have an active obstetrics in patient service and does not provide operative services. Due to the nature and size of the institution, Twelve Clans seeks physicians who are capable, qualified and with requisite experience to serve simultaneously in the dual role of Emergency Medicine and Hospitalist Physician. The hospital is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week and has a Physician on duty in the hospital at all times. The anticipated typical shift is 12 hours in length, 24 hours shifts will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Specific Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Understands and is able to demonstrably meet the goals, standards and expectations WCHS and TCUH core mission, vision, and values in a culturally competent and empathic manner, recognizing the centrality of the doctor patient relationship in clinical care delivery.
  • Recognizes and accepts the active role of an active medical staff member of TCUH to actively and meaningful participate in elevating the level of patient centric, high quality, safe care consistent with the quadruple aim of health care delivery.
  • Acts as a professional at all times, demonstrating the key attributes of a professional including: altruism, accountability, duty, honor and integrity, and respect for others. Serves as an active member of the TCUH medical staff as an emergency department and hospitalist physician. Adheres to Medical Staff bylaws and all policies, rules and regulations of WCHS, TCUH and any employment agreements.
  • Provides the full range of urgent and emergent medical care services in emergency department to patients of all ages from newborn to elderly and provides a full range of inpatient care to adults consistent with the service capabilities of the TCUH. This includes urgent and emergent care of the pregnant woman and behavioral health.
  • Skilled and capable of performing a full range of typical emergency department and inpatient procedures including but not limited to: intubations and management of difficult airways in adults and children (with ACLS and PALS), management of trauma (with ATLS), central line placement, body taps and tube placement (e.g., chest, abdomen).
  • Produce clear, accurate, adequate and timely clinical records.
  • Willing to be an engaged teacher of medical students and other health professional students and residents, including participating as required in faculty development.
  • Actively participates in performance improvement, quality of care and patient safety, patient engagement, case management, utilization review, and activities as directed by the Chief Medical Officer.
  • Complies with all federal, state, tribal, legal, and regulatory requirement including but not limited to: CMS, EMTALA, and HIPPA.
  • Collaborates with APPs in the delivery of care and supervises physician assistants as needed at the request of the CMO.

Required Qualifications/Skills:

  • Must have completed a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy from an accredited school in the United States approved by a recognizing body in the year of the applicants graduation, or a Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree from a foreign medical school which provided education and medical knowledge substantially equivalent to accredited schools in the Unites States. All foreign medical school graduates must have a permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medial Graduates (ECFMG) or a Fifth Pathway Certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduated education in a foreign country.
  • Completion of an ABMS recognized residency in emergency medicine, internal medicine or family practice.
  • Board certification and maintenance of certification as required by the appropriate ABMS specialty board.
  • Active and unrestricted state license in any US jurisdiction recognized by the Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB).
  • Must have certification of BLS, ACLS, PALS, ATLS.

Training Requirements:

  • Maintenance of board certification and continuing education consistent with licensure requirements.

Physical Requirements:

  • Normal to heavy work which includes the ability to lift up to 20-50 lbs.; lifting and/or transferring of patients may involve heavy lifting.
  • Regularly required to walk, stand, and sit for extended periods of time and use hands to operate computer keyboard, phone, and various office or medical equipment.
  • Manual dexterity with cooperatively free range of motion of all extremities including neck, fingers, hands, wrists, elbows, arms, shoulders, waist, legs, hips, knee joints, ankles, and feet is required.
  • While performing daily duties, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.
  • Fine motor skills required.

  • Ability to effectively handle situations and people with tact, courtesy, respect and objectivity with excellent social interaction skills.

Language Requirements:

  • Possess the ability to read, write, and speak the English language fluently.

Certificates, Licenses & Registrations:

  • All applicants will comply with 45 CFR 1301, Subpart D, Section 1301.31, C and D, which require all prospective employees to sign a declaration prior to employment regarding all arrests and convictions of child abuse or violent felonies and to comply with PL 101-630 and PL 101-637 regarding criminal records check.
