Responsibilities
- Perform rapid patient assessments upon arrival, including vital signs, triage categorization, and initial physical examinations to determine urgency levels.
- Administer medications, IV infusions, and injections accurately while adhering to aseptic techniques and hospital protocols.
- Manage airway patency using ventilators or advanced airway management techniques; respond swiftly to acute pain and respiratory distress situations.
- Document all patient interactions thoroughly in electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic or Cerner, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including physicians, radiology staff for diagnostic evaluation (e.g., CT scans), laboratory personnel for specimen collection/processing, and case managers for discharge planning.
- Provide specialized care for diverse patient populations including pediatrics, geriatrics, behavioral health cases, and individuals with developmental disabilities or dementia.
- Lead emergency procedures such as suturing, tube feeding management, catheterization, and wound care while maintaining sterile processing standards.
- Participate in trauma medicine protocols at Level I or Level II trauma centers; manage patients requiring ICU or PICU level care with proficiency in critical care transport when needed.
- Educate patients and families about treatment plans, medication administration, pain management strategies, and post-discharge instructions.
Requirements
- Current RN license with a valid BSN degree from an accredited program.
- Proven experience in emergency room settings with demonstrated expertise in emergency medicine and trauma care.
- Proficiency in EMR/EHR systems such as Epic or Cerner; familiarity with ICD-10/ICD-9 coding and medical documentation standards.
- Strong knowledge of physiology, anatomy, infection control practices, and airway management techniques.
- Ability to perform venipuncture (phlebotomy), IV insertions/insertion techniques, suturing skills, and aseptic technique adherence.
- Critical care experience preferred; background working within Level I or Level II trauma centers highly valued.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to work efficiently under pressure while maintaining compassionate patient interactions.
- Certifications including Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) are required.
- Experience working with diverse populations such as pediatrics, geriatrics, behavioral health patients or those with complex needs like dialysis or hospice & palliative medicine is advantageous.
