Job Summary
The Emergency Staff Nurse is responsible for providing immediate, high-quality nursing care to patients presenting with acute illnesses or injuries. The role requires quick clinical judgment, effective communication, and the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced emergency environment.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Care
- Perform rapid patient assessment, triage, and prioritization as per emergency protocols.
- Provide immediate nursing care to critically ill and trauma patients.
- Monitor vital signs, neurological status, oxygen saturation, and pain levels.
- Assist doctors during emergency procedures such as intubation, CPR, suturing, and minor surgeries.
- Administer medications, IV fluids, injections, and blood products as prescribed.
- Prepare and maintain emergency equipment (defibrillator, ventilator, crash cart).
Patient Management
- Receive, identify, and document patient complaints accurately.
- Maintain patient safety, privacy, and dignity at all times.
- Provide emotional support to patients and attendants during emergencies.
- Coordinate patient transfers to ICU, OT, wards, or diagnostic areas.
Documentation & Communication
- Maintain accurate and timely nursing documentation in emergency records.
- Report patient condition changes promptly to the medical team.
- Ensure proper handover during shift changes.
- Coordinate with ambulance staff, doctors, technicians, and support services.
Infection Control & Safety
- Follow hospital infection control policies and universal precautions.
- Ensure proper waste segregation and biomedical waste management.
- Maintain cleanliness and readiness of the emergency area.
Qualifications & Experience
- GNM / B.Sc Nursing from a recognized institute.
- Minimum 1–3 years experience in Emergency / ICU / Trauma care preferred.
- BLS / ACLS certification preferred.
