The Emergency Staff Nurse is responsible for providing prompt, efficient, and quality nursing care to patients in the Emergency Department. The role involves rapid assessment, stabilization, and management of critical patients while ensuring adherence to hospital policies and professional standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Patient Care & Assessment
- Receive and triage patients according to the severity of their condition.
- Provide immediate nursing interventions for critically ill and trauma patients.
- Monitor vital signs, administer medications, IV fluids, oxygen, and assist in resuscitation procedures.
- Emergency Procedures
- Assist doctors in life-saving interventions such as intubation, defibrillation, and code blue situations.
- Prepare and maintain emergency equipment, crash cart, and ensure readiness at all times.
- Administer first aid and stabilize patients before admission, transfer, or discharge.
- Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain accurate records of nursing care, patient condition, and treatment given.
- Ensure proper handover of patients and report critical findings to doctors and the next shift.
- Complete medico-legal documentation as per protocols.
- Coordination & Communication
- Coordinate with doctors, paramedical staff, and diagnostic departments for smooth patient management.
- Provide emotional support and clear communication to patients and their families.
- Assist in patient transfer to ICU, OT, or ward safely.
- Infection Control & Safety
- Adhere to infection control guidelines and hospital safety policies.
- Ensure safe disposal of biomedical waste.
- Follow universal precautions during all procedures.
- Other Responsibilities
- Participate in emergency drills and continuous training programs.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the Nursing In-Charge / Medical Officer.
