EMR Billing Manager

EMR Software Engineer (Medical Billing Integration)

We are seeking an experienced EMR Software Engineer to help enhance and modernize our healthcare technology platform. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with OpenEMR, medical billing workflows, claims processing, and clearinghouse integrations, particularly Availity.

This role will be responsible for developing, customizing, and maintaining EMR functionality, revenue cycle integrations, and automation tools to improve clinical and billing operations.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, customize, and maintain OpenEMR applications and modules.
  • Design and support integrations with Availity and other healthcare clearinghouses.
  • Develop and maintain electronic claims submission workflows.
  • Support eligibility verification, claim status, ERA/EOB processing, and payment posting integrations.
  • Work with billing and clinical teams to optimize revenue cycle workflows.
  • Develop APIs and interfaces between OpenEMR and third-party healthcare systems.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve EMR, billing, and claims processing issues.
  • Participate in software architecture, testing, deployment, and documentation.
  • Assist with AI-enabled workflow automation initiatives.

Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years of software development experience.
  • Hands-on experience with OpenEMR development and customization.
  • Experience integrating with Availity or other healthcare clearinghouses.
  • Strong understanding of medical billing and claims workflows.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA compliance and healthcare data security.
  • Experience with:
  • PHP
  • MySQL/MariaDB
  • JavaScript
  • REST APIs
  • Linux environments
  • Understanding of:
  • EDI 837 Claims
  • 835 ERA files
  • Eligibility transactions
  • Revenue cycle management workflows

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with FHIR and HL7 integrations.
  • Experience with healthcare SaaS platforms.
  • Familiarity with AI/LLM integrations and workflow automation.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
  • Knowledge of insurance eligibility and prior authorization workflows.
  • Experience working directly with physician practices or medical billing teams.
