BRCC is seeking an EMS Clinical Coordinator for its thriving Emergency Medical Services program. This is a part-time wage position, limited to 1000 hours within a 12-month period.


Job Responsibilities
  • Act as the Clinical Coordinator as required by the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP). Serve as the liaison to clinical sites.
  • Evaluate student performance during clinical experiences in an ongoing manner and communicate student progress to the Program Director and faculty. In conjunction with program faculty, develop student competencies that outline expected clinical learning outcomes.
  • Ensure clinical affiliate agreements/contracts meet the organization’s needs and comply with appropriate accreditation requirements.
  • Maintain department records. Develop, maintain, and use databases to generate reports and records; enter, review, retrieve, and modify data; verify data accuracy; provide reports and presentations regarding data.
  • Assist in laboratory skills and scenarios, and didactic instruction as needed.
  • Address any student concerns or issues that arise during clinical placements.
  • Review completed clinical evaluation forms and paperwork and report back to student(s)
  • Facilitate preceptor and student orientation to ensure a smooth integration into clinical settings
  • Ensure that clinical competencies are met and provide timely, constructive feedback
  • Assist in the development and implementation of clinical training materials and assessment tools
  • Recruit, train, and evaluate preceptors who will mentor students during clinical rotations
  • Handle administrative tasks related to scheduling, documentation, and compliance
  • Participate in faculty meetings, EMS Advisory Meetings, and contribute to program improvement initiatives
  • Conduct regular evaluations of clinical sites to ensure they provide a safe and effective learning environment
  • Stay updated with current trends and best practices in all levels of EMS education (EMT, Advanced EMT and Paramedic), and clinical training

Part-time positions have no benefits, but there is potential eligibility for educational assistance for BRCC classes and job-related training and/or certifications.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Thorough knowledge of educational theory, principles, practices, methods, evaluation, and techniques of basic and advanced life support education
  • Hold and maintain current Paramedic certification issued by the Virginia Office of Emergency Medical Services and the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to adhere to deadlines; operate independently and maintain flexibility in dynamic environments; analyze critical situations and to adapt quick, effective, and reasonable courses of action
  • Ability to establish, develop and maintain effective working relationships with all necessary stakeholders and interact effectively with other agencies/departments, and hospitals
  • Two years of related and recent full-time occupational experience
  • A commitment and enthusiasm for the community college mission and environment
  • Demonstrated passion for the discipline of Emergency Medical Services
  • No citations, suspensions or revocations issued by the Office of Emergency Medical Services of Virginia or National Registry (Past 5 years)
  • Associate’s Degree in EMS or willingness to complete within two years
  • Current Education Coordinator designation or willingness to earn it within two years
Additional Considerations:
  • Community college or university teaching experience is strongly preferred
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Emergency Medical Services or a related field from a regionally accredited institution
  • Knowledge concerning current national curricula, national accreditation, national registration, and the requirements for state certification or licensure is preferred
  • Current ability to practice as a released paramedic in a local jurisdiction (or willingness to become a practicing provider in the area)
  • Current certification as a Virginia EMS Education Coordinator
  • Previous instructional experience in a CoAEMSP accredited EMS program.
  • Teaching experience with online, hybrid, and/or traditional face-to-face classroom modalities in a higher education setting
  • Demonstrated proficiency and experience in using instructional technologies and learning management systems with the ability to use technology to enhance teaching and educational experience
  • Additional instructor certifications such as AHA CPR, ACLS, AMLS, PALS, etc.
