EMS CODING SPECIALIST

Responsibilities

• Review EMS reports, medical records, and documentation to assign appropriate codes using DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group), CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9, ICD-10, and ICD coding systems.
• Ensure accurate coding of diagnoses and procedures in accordance with federal and state regulations, payer requirements, and industry best practices.
• Collaborate with medical billing and collection teams to resolve discrepancies and facilitate timely reimbursement.
• Maintain detailed records of coded reports, ensuring compliance with privacy laws and data security standards.
• Utilize Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems efficiently to input, verify, and update patient information.
• Stay current with updates in medical terminology, coding guidelines, and healthcare regulations through ongoing education.
• Assist in audits and quality assurance reviews to uphold coding accuracy and integrity.

Skills

• Strong knowledge of DRG, CPT coding, ICD-9, ICD-10, and ICD coding systems.
• Proficiency in medical billing processes and medical collection procedures.
• Experience working with EMR and EHR systems within a healthcare setting.
• Excellent understanding of medical terminology, medical records management, and healthcare documentation standards.
• Ability to interpret complex medical reports accurately and assign appropriate codes efficiently.
• Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills to manage multiple cases simultaneously.
