Duties
- Respond promptly to emergency calls, providing immediate medical attention and stabilization at the scene.
- Perform thorough patient assessments, including vital signs, physical examinations, and physiological evaluations to determine the severity of injuries or illnesses.
- Manage airway patency through airway management techniques and administer oxygen or ventilation support as needed.
- Execute critical care transport procedures, ensuring safe transfer of patients between facilities such as Level I Trauma Centers or urgent care clinics.
- Administer medications via injection or other routes following protocols, including medication administration for pain relief, cardiac support, or sedation.
- Utilize medical terminology accurately to document patient conditions, treatments provided, and ongoing care needs clearly and comprehensively.
- Operate emergency vehicles safely by adhering to traffic laws and driving protocols while performing heavy lifting and physical tasks required during patient handling.
- Maintain aseptic techniques during procedures like venipuncture or injections to prevent infection and ensure patient safety.
- Collaborate with hospital staff during triage processes and critical care procedures to optimize patient outcomes.
- Keep detailed records of vital signs, medical interventions, and patient responses for legal documentation and quality assurance.
Requirements
- Valid EMT certification or Paramedic license with current state registration.
- Proven experience in emergency medicine settings such as hospitals, ERs, or trauma centers; Level II trauma center experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of physiology, anatomy, medical terminology, and critical care protocols.
- Hands-on experience with airway management techniques, medication administration, venipuncture, and physical examinations.
- Familiarity with DME (Durable Medical Equipment) usage in emergency scenarios.
- Ability to perform patient assessment accurately under pressure while maintaining professionalism.
- Experience in critical care transport operations across various environments including air or ground ambulance services.
- Excellent driving skills with a clean driving record; ability to operate emergency vehicles safely at all times.
- Physical stamina for heavy lifting and prolonged periods of standing or walking during shifts.
- Knowledge of aseptic techniques to prevent infection during procedures.
