Job Title: Engine Boss

Job Summary: The Engine Boss leads a crew of 1-2 firefighters on a type 6 engine crew performing fire suppression and fuels management duties in adverse climate, fuel, and terrain conditions.
Job Duties:
- Prepare and mobilize by assuring individual readiness and obtaining a briefing from the incident.
- Establish and maintain the physical fitness level necessary to effectively perform hard physical labor for extended periods of time under adverse climate, fuel, and terrain conditions.
- Perform wildland fire duties including suppression, preparation, ignition, monitoring, holding, and mop-up.
- Use standard wildland firefighting tools such as pulaskis, shovels, drip torches and fusees.
- Perform engine operation duties including running the pump, deploying hoselays
- Lead or participate in After Action Reviews (AAR)
- Apply knowledge of fuels, terrain, weather, and fire behavior
- Use Incident Command System (ICS) terminology, organization, and command structure.
- Follow established processes and chain of command for collecting, producing, and distributing information.
- Report any changes in fire behavior or hazardous conditions to your supervisor
- Have proficient understanding of multichannel Radio operation.
- Use plain language and ICS Terminology
- Use and maintain personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Perform fireline duties
- Use Incident Response Pocket Guide (IRPG) to guide actions
- Look, listen, and learn. Ask questions when appropriate and ensure you understand instructions when they are given.
- Be a student of fire. Observe interactions and operations to expand knowledge.
- Manage Risk
- Operate within your skill level and limitations
- Understand the skill level and limitations of your crew and operate within it
- Apply the Risk Management Process as stated in the IRPG
- Report all accidents or injuries to owners
- Establish LCES
- Apply the Standard Firefighting Orders and Watch Out Situations to your assignment as stated in the IRPG
- Use Look Up, Down and Around in the IRPG
- Comply with all safety practices and procedures
- Provide for health, safety, and welfare for yourself, your crew, and those around you
- Ensure the engine is properly taken care of
- Ensure truck checks are completed daily
- Perform maintenance as necessary
- Report any large maintenance problems to the owners immediately
- Follow company standard operating procedures (SOPs), company behavior expectations and other company policies.
Work Hours:
On-call June-October or when the season is complete.
Hours vary depending on assignment.

- Ability to sit, stand, lift 50 pounds, bend, etc.
Job Type: Temporary
Pay: $800.00 - $850.00 per day
