Position Title: Engine & Fuels Crewmember

Division: Wildland

Supervisor: Fuels Crew Lead

Job Summary

The Engine & Fuels Crewmember is a seasonal position responsible for the implementation all aspects of operations for the Engine & Fuels Crew. The Engine & Fuels Crewmember reports directly to the Fuels Crew Lead on day-to-day operations.

Under the direction of the Fuels Crew Lead, the Crewmember will:

  • Implement day-to-day operations as directed by Fuels Crew Lead.
  • Provide high level of performance during implementation of operations.
  • Ensure safe operations in the workplace and on assignment.
  • Participate in daily briefings and in wildfire suppression operations.
  • Maintain complaince of all Wildland Fire Division SOPs.
  • Ensure assigned Management Programs and collateral duties are being implemented as issued by the Fuels Crew Lead.
  • Participate in fireline operations.
  • Maintain high level of conduct and compliance with Core Values at all time.
  • Participate in training both classroom and OJT.
  • Participate in arduous physical training and maintain constant state of readiness.
  • Reinforce the Chain of Command at all times.

The Engine & Fuels Crewmember is a primary Wildland Fire Position, and will be expected to conduct themselves in a professional manner at all times under the direction of the Fuels Crew Lead.


Required Experience, Education, and Training

Experience

  • <1 Season (Flexible)

Certifications

  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Must pass background check

Training

  • S130, S190, L180, S212 Preferred
  • Various on the job trainings.

Or

  • Entry Level - None

Working Environment and Physical Requirements

  • Arduous physical activity is required in the performance of normal duties, occasionally under extreme adverse conditions.
  • This position requires standing, walking, stooping, bending, lifting, crawling, jumping, sliding, climbing and repetitive motion.
  • Work is performed in all weather conditions, wind, snow, rain and in extreme temperatures below 0 degrees Fahrenheit and excess of 100 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Work is performed under hazardous and adverse conditions, including but not limited to slippery/uneven surfaces, proximity to moving mechanical equipment, burning materials, broken glass or other materials, electrical currents, high places and confined spaces.
  • Work may result in exposure to smoke, gases, chemicals, fumes, odors, mists and dusts, which can affect the respiratory system or skin.
  • Employees are required to maintain training and utilize personal protective equipment as supplied from the District as needed to perform their duties.
  • This position demands frequent use of sensory activities such as talking, seeing, hearing, smelling, feeling (identifying objects by touch), depth perception and color vision.
  • This position requires the ability to read, write, speak and understand the English language.
  • This position will involve periods of high physical, mental and/or emotional stress.
  • This position will involve travel for wildland fire assignments around the United States for up to 21 days plus travel.
