JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE
Responsible for engineering support of natural gas operations, material asset specifications, and company procedures relating to natural gas measurement. The role includes development of material standards, procedures, and policies for engineering measurement and design, system operation and maintenance, and also includes project management. Maintains industry wide technical knowledge of pressure regulation, measurement, monitoring equipment, and applicable standards.
ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Maintain knowledge of federal DOT regulatory codes, as well as state codes for natural gas pipeline assets.
- Support the technical development of specifications and procedures for all company technical manuals.
- Participate/lead teams on projects as required.
- Assist in resolving quality issues with materials used within Delta Utilities’ gas systems.
- Evaluate new measurement related materials and technologies to achieve greater reliability of Delta Utilities’ gas assets.
- Estimate capital and O&M costs associated with department projects.
- Ensure work is compliant with federal, state, and local regulations (safety, environmental, DOT, etc.) and internal policies.
- Interface with other internal departments such as engineering and operations to disseminate technical and procedural information.
- Interface with customers, contractors, regulatory agencies, standards development organizations, and the public.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Minimum education required of the position
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering is required
Minimum experience required of the position
- Engineer: Requires a minimum of 3 years of experience in engineering, project management, or operations
- Sr. Engineer: Requires a minimum of 5 years of experience in the natural gas industry in engineering, project management, or operations
Minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities preferred of the position
- Demonstrable knowledge of industry standards and reports such as ANSI B109.4 and American Gas Association (AGA) reports (AGA 3, AGA 7, AGA 8, AGA 9, AGA 11, etc.)
- Knowledge of gas flow measurement principles related to orifice plate, ultrasonic, turbine, rotary, diaphragm, and Coriolis meters
- Application of fixed and live pressure compensation techniques
- Knowledge of pressure control systems, regulators, sensing elements, and its practical consideration and application to the load(s)
- Working knowledge of gas composition, heating value, specific gravity, and Wobbe index
- Familiarity with PHMSA, DOT 49 CFR Part 192, and state PSC regulations
- Working knowledge of measurement accuracy, inspection intervals, and calibration requirements
- Awareness of OQ (Operator Qualification) frameworks
- Ability to develop and enhance measurement schematics, station designs, and M&R configurations
- Strong troubleshooting and critical thinking skills
- Clear communication with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders
- Ability to write clear reports, measurement practices, and documentation
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Knowledge in ASTM, API, DOT, ASME, ANSI, and state and local regulations
- Able to motivate self with minimal supervision and have a strong desire to learn
- Able to handle multiple tasks and changing priorities and meet deadlines
- Able to demonstrate analytical and organizational skills, including economics
- Able to handle sensitive/confidential information, work effectively under pressure, and practice efficient time management

- Sr. Engineer: professional Engineer license in the state of application/employment and will consider licensure from other states
Physical Requirements
- Able to operate a motor vehicle, including the ability to enter and exit vehicle unassisted.
- Able to perform on-site inspections.
- Able to operate a personal computer, either desktop or laptop.
- Able to sit for extended periods of time.
- Able to operate a copy machine, fax machine, calculator, telephone, and other miscellaneous office equipment.
- Able to exert up to 50 lb of force occasionally and/or a minimal amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, or move objects.

- Able to work indoors in a normal office environment and outdoors with occasional exposure to all weather conditions, hot, dirty, and/or greasy equipment, and noise when at field installation sites.
- Able to travel outside the primary work location to field locations, remote areas, conferences, and/or meetings. Travel may occur in any weather conditions and may occasionally require overnight stays.
- Able to wear personal protection equipment, such as respirator, safety glasses, hard hat, gloves, and ear plugs, occasionally as required based on type of work.
- Able to be included in random drug screen pools required for DOT safety sensitive positions.
- The ability to comprehend, document, calculate, visualize, and analyze is required.
- Able to handle emergency situations, including possible exposure to gaseous atmospheres on occasion.
- May be required to remain in the service area during emergency events and assume responsibilities assigned by the company to aid in restoration efforts.
