Engineer I

USDI is seeking an Engineer I to join our Shelbyville, KY team. The Engineer I, under direction from hiring manager and senior engineers, performs project-based engineering, interacts with other engineers, clients, and officials for project tasks. The Engineer I will have field responsibilities including site visits, surveys, and inspections. Field duties include traveling to client facilities and navigating various job site conditions.

Specific Job Duties include:

• Perform field inspections, equipment testing and troubleshooting, technical support, and more.
• Performing basic natural gas design calculations of piping, pipelines, regulator stations, relief valves and more.
• Set up files, sheets, title blocks, notes, and general details as part of the overall drawing package
• Prepare basic CAD drawings in accordance with company standards, procedures, and specifications
• Communicate with other Engineers, Project Managers, and Field Personnel to determine drawing requirements, obtain technical advice, report project status, and establish priorities
• Maintain compliance records and documentation
• Interface with clients on a regular basis
• Understand, review, and comply with state and federal pipeline safety regulations
• Other duties as assigned

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• 0-3 years of engineering experience
• 0-3 years of AutoCAD (Civil 3D preferred) experience
• Project Management, Natural Gas, or Utility experience
• Computer aptitude, especially with various applications including MS Office, SharePoint
• Experience with manuals, documenting standards, material specifications, and BOMs

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• A 4-year engineering or engineering technical degree from an accredited university or college
• Ability to work independently and be self-motivated
• Possess good written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to pass initial and continuous federally required Operator Qualification evaluations
• Ability to effectively operate various company-supplied equipment
• Willingness to travel, including overnight stays
• Ability to maintain a positive work atmosphere through effective interactions and communications with co-workers, management, and clients.
• Ability to maintain a safe environment for co-workers, clients, and the public through adherence to established safety standards and timely reporting of potential hazards
• Possess a valid driver’s license and a good driving record
• Ability to pass a background and driving check, employment history, and drug screening
