About EDS
Energy Driven Systems (EDS) is a UAE-based engineering and systems integration company delivering rugged, mission-critical systems for defence, security, and autonomous platforms. We design and build real-world solutions—focused on reliability, serviceability, and performance in harsh environments.
Role Overview
We are looking for an exceptional engineering design manager to take on a dynamic, hybrid player-coach role. In this position, you will serve as our principal mechanical designer—taking the lead on heavy-lifting CAD work—while simultaneously running and mentoring the design team. This role extends far beyond the desk: you must be highly hands-on, splitting your time between complex conceptual design, the fabrication workshop, and active field deployments to test and integrate the systems you build.
Key Responsibilities
- Principal Design & Modelling: Act as the primary mechanical designer, executing high-level 3D CAD modelling (SolidWorks, Inventor, Fusion 360 or similar) for custom mechanical systems, autonomous platforms, and fabricated assemblies.
- Team Leadership: Direct, manage, and mentor the design team, balancing your own design workload with assigning tasks, reviewing team models, and ensuring high-quality output.
- Field Deployment & Testing: Actively go out into the field to oversee system integration, conduct real-world testing, and troubleshoot hardware in rugged environments.
- Cross-Functional & Software Integration: Partner closely with workshop, fabrication, and software development teams to ensure seamless integration between mechanical structures, electronics, and software/AI systems.
- Design for Manufacture (DFM): Champion DFM principles for sheet metal and welded structures, optimizing designs for field serviceability, cost, and weight.
- Documentation: Produce and oversee full manufacturing and fabrication drawing packages, BOMs, and technical documentation.
Requirements
- 5+ years of mechanical design experience, with a strong track record of both producing complex designs independently and leading a team.
- Expert-level CAD skills and the ability to produce full, rigorous drawing packages.
- Willingness and physical capability to work hands-on in the workshop and travel out into the field for testing and deployment in harsh conditions.
- Strong practical understanding of manufacturing processes, tolerances, and fabricated assemblies.
- Excellent communication skills to effectively translate complex engineering concepts across mechanical, software, and fabrication teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Software / AI Development Experience: Highly advantageous. Because you will be working hand-in-hand with our software team on autonomous systems, an understanding of software engineering, system architecture, or AI integration will be a major asset.
- Expertise in structural/welded frames and complex enclosures.
- Experience in vehicle, autonomous platform, or heavy equipment integration.
- A strong background in rapid prototyping and end-to-end product development.
Why Join EDS
- True Hybrid Impact: Own the entire lifecycle of your designs, from the initial CAD sketch to managing the design team, building it in the workshop, and proving it in the field.
- Advanced Technology: Gain direct exposure to defence, security, and cutting-edge autonomous systems.
- Dynamic Environment: Step into a fast-paced, highly collaborative role where your engineering decisions make an immediate, real-world impact.
