Salary Plan/Grade: Minimum Starting Salary = $40,918.00; Maximum Starting Salary = $71,055.00

Work Schedule: 7:30 am – 5:30 pm Monday through Thursday and 8:00 am – 12:00 pm Friday. Hours may vary depending on your department team’s needs.

Position Description:

Performs intermediate design work and calculations; performs field work; uses automated systems and learns specialized procedures. Design activity is overseen by a licensed professional engineer who has final approval authority for projects. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.

Essential Duties Include:

· Performs basic design work.

· Performs intermediate drafting and calculations in support of design activities; accomplishes non-routine and complex assignments.

· Prepares field notes.

· Prepares quantity summaries, hydraulic and utility studies and right-of-way maps.

· Prepares roadway design, traffic control, lighting, signal, and building plans.

· Uses automated programs, interactive graphics and the Design and Construction Information System.

· Works on reproduction of plans.

· Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.

· Assists in on-the-job training of less experienced technicians.

· Performs advanced drafting and calculations in support of design activities; develops graphic presentations that include distinctive design features.

· Performs intermediate design work.

· Prepares environmental documents.

· Reviews entire sets of plans for format, drafting and calculation errors and correlation of plans and specifications.

· Schedules, coordinates and prepares documents for public hearings.

· Writes general notes, specifications and provisions.

Minimum Educational Qualifications:

Education: High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies.

Work Experience:

  • 2 years of experience in drafting, design, plan preparation.

(Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related College education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis.

  • No supervisory experience required.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Valid Driver's License at time of hire

Competencies:

· Basic roadway design

· Applicable engineering workstations and applications to support efficient planning and design activities

· Interactive graphic and design information systems

· Performing basic design and drafting

· Training in a classroom, office, or field environment

· Using computers, applicable programs, applications, and systems

· Follow verbal and written instructions

· In addition to the competencies listed above

· Hydrologic, hydraulic and geotechnical design activities and principles

· Advanced and specialized design/drafting procedures

· Higher mathematics

· Performing advanced drafting

· Performing intermediate drafting

· Writing and revising standards and procedures

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

· Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions

· Sedentary work: Lift up to 10 lbs at a time and occasionally carry files/small tools

· Talking-expressing or exchanging ideas by spoken words

· Hearing-perceive sound at normal speaking levels; receive information by oral communication

· Close Visual Acuity-work includes data/figures; view a computer screen; extensive reading

Conditions of Employment:

  • Driver's record check will be conducted by GDJ Engineering. Satisfactory driving records are required for driving company or personal vehicles and motor driven equipment to conduct agency business.
  • Applicants for this position who could potentially be required to drive for GDJ Engineering could be subject to a drug test prior to employment and will be subject to reasonable cause testing during employment.
  • Education and degree information listed on applications will be verified for all final applicants. Additional conditions for this position:

  • May be required to pass a drug test prior to employment for safety impact positions. This is a Safety Impact position and will be subject to random drug testing.
  • May be required to work weekends and holidays (when needed).
  • May be required to work hours other than 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM (when needed).
  • May be required to work under exposure to inclement weather conditions (when needed).
  • Required to wear personal protective equipment provided by employer and comply with all safety requirements.
  • Driver's record check will be conducted by the employer. Satisfactory driving records are required for driving company owned or personal vehicles and motor driven equipment to conduct agency business.
  • Must attend work regularly and observe approved work hours
