Satellite Communications Engineering Intern

MUST BE AN ACTIVE ALASKA RESIDENT TO APPLY.

Location: Anchorage AK

Schedule: Full or Part-Time, 20-40 hours per week

Job Summary:

At Microcom you will work with cutting edge technology to provide satellite communications to communities throughout Alaska. You will have an integral part in providing prompt and professional technical product support to the team as well as the opportunity to develop technical proposals to customers.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in design, configuration, analysis, and troubleshooting of satellite networks.
  • Draft and amend network drawings and documentation of satellite networks for full data delivery to customers.
  • Become proficient at identifying appropriate solutions depending on network requirements.
  • Support the research of new platforms and technologies that can be integrated into existing and new satellite networks.

· Learn how to proactively identify potential problems; propose recommendations for an effective solution.

· Assist with weekly and on-demand reporting of all workflow activities.

· Gain engineering and project management skills by supporting our teams to complete projects on-time and on-budget.

· Conduct site visits for information gathering purposes, as necessary.

· Adhere to company and professional ethics governing the handling of confidential information and the observation of confidentiality.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (Applicants should meet these requirements):

· A drive and excitement for learning new things

· Excellent analytical and math skills

· Ability to work with engineers, vendors, operators, and management to coordinate project schedules.

· Valid driver’s license is required.

· Ability to stand for long periods of time if needed.

· Ability to work in small spaces if needed.

· Must be willing to take a drug screen, past employment verifications, and a background check.

· Familiarity with wireless communication systems and concepts

· Experience with networking concepts

· Excellent communication skills with the ability to work within multiple teams.

· Proficient with drawing tools - Visio or equivalent

Education:

Currently enrolled in a 4-year accredited college/university or received a BS degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent degree. Preferred courses taken are any related to wireless communications, microwave systems, or networking systems.
