Engineering Manager
Scope:
Leads Savannah Tank's global engineering function and serves as the company's technical authority for tanks, pressure vessels, and heat exchangers. Responsible for ensuring that all engineering work (including design calculations, fabrication drawings, and bills of material) is accurate, code-compliant, and suitable for efficient fabrication.
Principal Duties:
- Lead the engineering and design activities for tanks, pressure vessels, and heat exchangers from concept through fabrication, and serve as primary point of contact for internal and external customers with respect to tank design, engineering, and drawings.
- Work closely with sales and estimating personnel to review customer specifications and support technical aspects of quotations.
- Assign, perform, and review design calculations to confirm compliance with applicable production codes, including ASME Section VIII, TEMA, and API storage tank standards.
- Serve as the company's technical authority on heat exchanger design, including interpretation of customer data sheets, process conditions, and thermal design calculations.
- Review thermal design packages prepared using tools such as HTRI to confirm that design assumptions and resulting equipment configurations are appropriate.
- Review finite element analysis (FEA) reports prepared by third parties using software such as Ansys and STAAD.Pro to ensure structural analyses are reasonable, assumptions are valid, and conclusions support safe and compliant equipment design. Apply critical engineering judgment to challenge assumptions used in third-party calculations or analyses when appropriate.
- Provide technical leadership and guidance to Savannah Tank's engineering and drafting team.
- Oversee the preparation and verification of design calculations, fabrication drawings, and bills of material, ensuring they are accurate, complete, and issued on schedule.
- Communicate directly with customers and their engineering teams to answer technical questions and clarify equipment requirements.
- Collaborate with shop personnel and manufacturing leadership to ensure designs reflect sound fabrication practices and can be produced safely, efficiently, and cost-effectively.
- Maintain engineering documentation and support continuous improvement of engineering standards, tools, and practices.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline. Master's degree preferred.
- Significant experience in the design of pressure vessels, storage tanks, and heat exchangers in an industrial equipment manufacturing environment.
- Thorough knowledge of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (Section VIII) and familiarity with applicable industry standards, including API and TEMA.
- Strong understanding of heat exchanger designs, including interpretation of customer data sheets and review of thermal design calculations prepared using tools such as HTRI, Aspen EDR, or similar software.
- Ability to review and interpret finite element analysis (FEA) reports, including analyses prepared using software such as Ansys and STAAD.Pro, and apply sound engineering, judgment when evaluating modeling assumptions and results.
- Practical knowledge of metal fabrication processes, including welding, forming, cutting, and machining, and the ability to translate engineering design into equipment that can be manufactured efficiently and reliably.
- Experience using pressure vessel and tank design software such as COMPRESS, AME-Tank, or equivalent engineering tools, along with proficiency in Autodesk inventor and AutoCAD.
- Strong analytical, technical, and problem-solving skills, including the ability to review engineering calculations and evaluate complex technical specifications.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with customers, engineers, and manufacturing personnel.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and develop engineering and drafting staff.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple engineering priorities simultaneously.
