Sarasota Academy of the Arts, a small K-8 school in Sarasota, FL is seeking a creative and dynamic English Language Arts Teacher for grades 6-8 to inspire students in their journey of literacy, critical thinking, and creative expression. Duties
- Develop and implement comprehensive lesson plans aligned with curriculum standards, incorporating best practices in literacy education and instructional design
- Foster a positive classroom environment that promotes active learning, respect, and collaboration among students
- Utilize learning technology tools to enhance instruction and engage students in creative writing, journalism, and research projects
- Assess student progress through standardized testing, formative assessments, and project-based evaluations; provide timely feedback
- Mentor students individually or in small groups to improve writing skills, reading comprehension, and critical analysis
- Incorporate advanced style guides such as AP style and Chicago Manual of Style into classroom activities and student assignments
- Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum development, literacy initiatives, and school-wide programs to support diverse learning needs
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Education, or related field; master’s degree preferred
- Proven classroom experience teaching English Language Arts at the middle or high school level
- Strong knowledge of curriculum development, instructional design, and assessment strategies
- Familiarity with AP style, copy editing techniques, proofreading skills, and journalistic writing practices
- Experience with learning technology platforms and digital resources for literacy education
- Excellent communication skills—both verbal and written—and organizational abilities
- Ability to manage classroom behavior effectively while fostering an inclusive environment for all learners
- Knowledge of standardized testing procedures and educational research methods
- Prior experience working with students with special education needs or in private school settings is advantageous
