The English Language Development (ELD) Coach plays a key role in improving teaching and learning for students in Kindergarten through Grade 12 who are developing proficiency in English. The coach provides guidance, modeling, and professional learning to teachers to ensure effective language instruction and equitable access to the curriculum for all multilingual learners.


Key Responsibilities

Instructional Support

  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to design and implement effective ELD instructional strategies across grade levels and subject areas.
  • Model and co-teach lessons that demonstrate best practices in scaffolding, differentiation, and language-rich instruction.
  • Support teachers in developing lesson plans that integrate language objectives with academic content standards.
  • Conduct classroom observations and provide constructive feedback focused on enhancing instructional quality and student engagement.

Professional Development

  • Plan and facilitate ongoing professional learning for teachers and staff on topics such as second language acquisition, academic vocabulary development, and culturally responsive teaching.
  • Coach teachers through one-on-one mentoring and collaborative planning sessions.
  • Share research-based strategies, tools, and resources that support the academic and linguistic needs of English learners.

Student Achievement and Data

  • Work with teachers and administrators to analyze student performance data and identify learning needs and growth targets for English learners.
  • Assist in monitoring student progress, evaluating assessment data, and developing intervention plans.
  • Support the implementation of school-wide ELD programs, ensuring consistency and alignment with national or local standards.

Collaboration and Leadership

  • Collaborate with grade-level and subject teams to embed ELD strategies across the curriculum.
  • Serve as a resource and advocate for English learners and their families within the school community.
  • Participate in curriculum review, program evaluation, and school improvement initiatives related to language development.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, English, TESOL, Applied Linguistics, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Valid teaching license or TESOL/ESL endorsement.
  • Strong proficiency in English, both written and spoken.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of successful teaching experience with English language learners (K–12 setting preferred).
  • Demonstrated experience in instructional coaching, mentoring, or professional development facilitation.
  • Deep understanding of language acquisition theory, ELD standards, and evidence-based instructional practices.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Culturally responsive and committed to inclusive education.

  • Ability to analyze data and translate insights into actionable teaching strategies.
