Position Overview

The English Language Development (ELD) Teacher supports multilingual learners (MLs) in achieving English language proficiency while accessing grade-level content. The ELD Teacher collaborates closely with classroom teachers, special educators, and school leaders to deliver high-quality, differentiated instruction that aligns with DC and WIDA standards.

This is a full-time, school-based position starting immediately.


Key Responsibilities

Instructional Support

  • Deliver small group and/or push-in instruction to multilingual learners (MLs) based on individual language needs.
  • Develop and implement ELD lessons that integrate listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills aligned with WIDA standards.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers to co-plan lessons that support language development within the core curriculum.
  • Monitor student progress through formative assessments and language proficiency data.


Compliance and Assessment

  • Administer and score WIDA ACCESS and other language assessments.
  • Maintain accurate student records, including language development plans and compliance documentation, to ensure timely and practical support.
  • Participate in the development and monitoring of ML student goals and reclassification processes.


Collaboration and Professional Growth

  • Work collaboratively with instructional coaches, content-area teachers, and support staff to ensure equitable access for multilingual learners.
  • Attend professional development sessions focused on culturally responsive and language-inclusive teaching practices.
  • Communicate regularly with families to provide updates on student progress and strategies for supporting language development at home.


Additional Responsibilities

As a member of the Center City PCS school community, all teachers are expected to:

  • Uphold the school’s mission, vision, and values.
  • Participate in grade-level and staff meetings, parent conferences, and school events.
  • Support the development of students’ character and social-emotional skills.
  • Fulfill assigned duties such as morning arrival, lunch, recess, or dismissal supervision.


Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, TESOL, Linguistics, or a related field.
  • Valid teaching certification (DC or transferable from another state).
  • Experience working with multilingual or English learner populations.


Preferred:

  • TESOL or ESL endorsement.
  • Knowledge of WIDA standards and sheltered instruction strategies.
  • Experience in an urban public or charter school setting.
