Job Summary

The Dunnigan Fire Protection District is seeking motivated individuals interested in gaining hands-on experience in the fire service as Volunteer Firefighters. This is a non-paid, entry-level position. Volunteers respond to fires, medical emergencies, rescues, vehicle accidents, wildland incidents, and other emergencies while working alongside experienced firefighters. Firefighters are required to work one 24 hour shift per week.

This position provides valuable training and real-world experience for individuals interested in pursuing a career in firefighting or emergency medical services.

Volunteer firefighters also assist with training drills, equipment maintenance, station duties, and community outreach activities.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the supervision of company officers, volunteer firefighters:

  • Respond to fires, medical emergencies, rescues, and natural disasters
  • Provide emergency medical care within scope of training
  • Assist with fire suppression and rescue operations
  • Participate in training drills and skill development
  • Maintain fire apparatus, equipment, and station facilities
  • Support public education and community outreach programs
  • Perform other duties consistent with fire district operations

  • Training drills and skill development
  • Responding to medical aids, fires, and rescues
  • Station maintenance and community service

Minimum Qualifications

  • At least 18 years of age
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Current CPR certification
  • Good physical condition
  • Live within 125 miles of the station

Desired Qualifications

Preferred but not required:

  • California State Fire Marshal Firefighter I
  • California EMT certification
  • FEMA ICS 100, 200, and 700
  • Class A drivers license or Firefighter endorsement

Experience

No prior firefighting experience is required.

Volunteer firefighters are expected to complete the department’s probationary firefighter training packet within one year of joining the department.

Schedule

Volunteer firefighters are required to work one 24-hour shift per week on an assigned day.
