Job Summary/Objective
- The Environmental Specialist I / Geologist for Groundwater and Solid Waste Management Programs. Environmental Specialist I is responsible for all aspects of compliance with state and federal solid waste regulations and laws. Knowledge of environmental or engineering principles, practices, rules, and regulations.
Essential Functions
- Identify, analyze and implement current and potential Groundwater and Solid Waste Programs regulatory and business requirements that will affect the site and corporate operations.
- Assist in developing permit applications and implementing permits, programs, training, and procedures including maintenance of records that will promote compliance with solid waste permits, regulations and laws.
- Responsible for championing environmental awareness, sustainability, and continuous improvement for the site.
- Conduct environmental field work, including collecting soil, surface water, groundwater, and remediation system data; soil logging; and fluid level gauging.
- Oversee contractors conducting field surveys, drilling, well installation, development operations, and utility clearance for intrusive operations.
- Participate in a health and safety team performing inspections, observations, and training.
- Prepare field documents, collect and process field data, and interpret results.
- Support office tasks: data entry, data analysis, report preparation, and maintenance of records archive system.
- Collect and record data, compare results to relevant studies and state/federal regulations to ensure compliance.
Key Competencies
- Review projects or significant modifications to determine any Groundwater and Solid Waste Management Programs requirements or regulatory agency notifications as dictated by the project / modification.
- Preparation and timely submittal of compliance reports including applicable periodic, Annual Solid Waste compliance report, Groundwater Annual and Semi-Annual reports.
- Support the facility’s Hazardous Waste program
- Responsible for all waste programs throughout the facility
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 3+ years of environmental experience in chemical manufacturing, consulting, or regulatory role.
- Demonstrated primary technical role in multiple site characterization, subsurface investigation, and remediation projects at various client sites.
- Understand and assist with site conceptual models.
- Collect and evaluate environmental data in field and office settings.
- Prepare investigation reports and drawings
- Experience interfacing with regulatory agencies during inspections.
- Moderate computer experience and familiarity with Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to learn software programs such as SAP, and other environmental, engineering, and risk management information.
Education
- Position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Environmental Science or with related technical and regulatory experience in the chemical manufacturing industry.
Work Environment
- The individual will develop, implement and train appropriate personnel on permits, programs and procedures for Solid Waste compliance.
- The individual will provide advice and guidance on Groundwater sampling activities at the site.
- The individual must be able to direct and negotiate company position with regulatory agencies, trade associations, and other external entities.
- The individual must stay knowledgeable of ever-changing regulatory developments, regulations, and legislation to make appropriate recommendations
Physical Demands
- Ability to lift 10 lbs. and climb stairs.
- To perform field work outdoors in various weather conditions
Work Authorization
- This role requires authorization to work in the United States. (Can specify if the company would sponsor H1-B for this role)
