Description

The Solid Waste & Recycling Division is primarily responsible for the disposal of Municipal Solid Waste generated in the County as required by North Carolina State Law and in accordance with all applicable local regulations. Gaston County currently uses an integrated solid waste management plan that includes sanitary landfilling, composting/mulching, recycling, and related waste reduction programs.

An hourly salary range of $27.45 to $31.91 is anticipated for this position.


Examples of Duties

The duties listed below are not all that may be assigned but are considered essential for an employee to perform.

  • Maintain and maximize methane gas wellfield production through daily monitoring and adjustments.
  • Review, prepare, analyze, and maintain records pertaining to methane, leachate, etc., to ensure regulatory compliance (Tille V reports, leachate discharge, stack testing).
  • Compile data, maintain records, and ensure proper calibration of equipment for carbon credit verification to monetize credit.
  • Check regularly for air infiltration, monitoring equipment, and other system components to verify the system is performing optimally.
  • Coordinate and assist with third-party auditors, technicians, regulatory agencies, and carbon credit brokers.
  • Track leachate volumes (generation, recirculation, and discharge to City of Gastonia).
  • Schedule and review quarterly methane, groundwater, and surface water monitoring at Auten, Biggerstaff, and Cramerton closed landfills.
  • Update and renew environmental permits,
  • Conduct research and analytical studies, including cost analysis of the system.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Four-year science or engineering-related degree
  • Data analysis experience
  • Ability to obtain SWANA LFG operations certification within one year of employment.

Additional Information

The applicant selected must undergo and pass a drug screening test prior to employment.
