Basic Job Functions:

The Environmental Engineer will oversee and support multiple locations—Houston, TX, Madison, IN, and Monroe, GA. The Environmental Engineer will be responsible for interacting with all teammates to ensure plant understanding of and compliance with federal, state and local environmental regulations and policies. Sustainability training, goals and projects are facilitated by Environmental Engineer. The position develops and provides applicable training, reports key regulatory requirements, and participates in corporate environmental initiatives. This role will help us understand and manage current operations and associated environmental obligations as well as participating in and evaluating changes to our manufacturing/commercial landscape. Additional duties include Environmental Management System (EMS), project management, and community outreach. The Environmental Engineer will report to the Environmental Department Manager, who supports multiple NRG facilities. As part of the NRG Environmental Team, this role will work with the team to share ideas, resources, and strengthen the environmental group of multiple facilities across different states.

Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Four-year degree from an accredited university in engineering, environmental or sustainability.
  • Willingness to travel between locations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in environmental compliance in a manufacturing or other industrial environment. Experience with implementation and maintenance of an ISO14001 or equivalent EMS.
  • Demonstrable knowledge and understanding of environmental regulations (air, water, hazardous waste). Specific state-level regulatory knowledge for TX (waste), IN (air), GA.
  • Bilingual—English-Spanish speaker.
