Overview
We are seeking an experienced Environmental Engineer with demonstrated expertise in brownfield remediation and strong familiarity with Ohio environmental laws and regulations. This role will support remediation planning and implementation, provide subject matter expert (SME) assistance to internal teams and external partners, and conduct technical review of grant proposals related to environmental assessment, cleanup, and redevelopment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and support brownfield assessment and remediation projects, including Phase I/II ESAs, remedial investigations, feasibility studies, and cleanup action plans.
- Apply and interpret Ohio EPA regulations, guidance, and policies (including VAP and relevant state/federal programs) to ensure compliance throughout project lifecycles.
- Provide SME assistance to project teams, municipalities, developers, and stakeholders on environmental engineering, remediation strategies, and risk management.
- Review and evaluate grant proposals (e.g., assessment, cleanup, revolving loan fund, and related funding programs) for technical accuracy, feasibility, regulatory alignment, and cost reasonableness.
- Prepare and review technical reports, work plans, cost estimates, schedules, and regulatory submittals.
- Coordinate with regulators, clients, contractors, and community stakeholders.
- Support procurement, contractor oversight, and field activities as needed.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of standard operating procedures and best practices.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a closely related field.
- 5+ years of professional experience in brownfield remediation or contaminated site management.
- Working knowledge of Ohio environmental law and Ohio EPA programs applicable to brownfields and site cleanup.
- Experience reviewing or preparing grant applications and technical narratives.
- Strong analytical, technical writing, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines with minimal supervision.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in Ohio or ability to obtain.
- Experience with federal brownfields programs and coordination with state agencies.
- Familiarity with redevelopment planning, stakeholder engagement, and environmental justice considerations.
- Experience serving as a technical reviewer or SME for public-sector or nonprofit clients.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $50.00 - $75.00 per hour
Expected hours: No more than 25 per week
