HawkMtn Labs, Inc. (HML), an established and respected environmental analytical testing laboratory located near Hazleton, PA, has an immediate opening for an experienced Environmental Laboratory Manager.
The Laboratory Manager provides effective leadership and is responsible for ensuring that our staff and operations have the necessary tools and support to perform at the optimum level of efficiency while maintaining a strict ethical protocol of all processes and practices. As the Laboratory Manager, you will be an integral part of our team, reporting directly to the technical director. Your role will include managing day-to-day lab operations, focusing on analysis quality and sample throughput, and using data analysis to monitor performance, ensuring compliance with regulatory and industry standards. You will be pivotal in developing and maintaining SOPs along with recruiting, training, scheduling, and evaluating lab staff. HawkMtn Labs, Inc. is welcome to experienced laboratory managers/directors, as well as willing to train laboratory supervisors and/or lead technologists.
Duties and Responsibilities:

Manage all facets of laboratory operations including staffing, budgeting, and compliance, and maintain overall lab spaces, including cleanliness and organization

Maintain and optimize processes within the lab to increase efficiency and effectiveness, including managing inventory, lab consumables, and chemicals

Assure consistency, reliability and credibility of data

Ensure benchmark strategies and procedures (i.e., proficiency testing, analyst training, daily controls) are followed and corrective measures are taken

Model, promote and maintain a safe work environment that follows established Environment, Safety and Health (ESH) procedures; as well as strict adherence to SOPs and GMPs

Oversee lab safety, regulatory compliance and related trainings, including tracking chemicals and hazardous materials and enforcing PPE policy and lab safety rules.

Create and edit SOPs for lab procedures, safety, equipment maintenance, and others as needed

Ensure all test and measurement systems are operating within set parameters

Keep management apprised of any condition that may impact production schedules

Maintain laboratory equipment performance by establishing quality standards; developing operation, quality, and troubleshooting procedures; and ensure staff compliance

Maintain/Operate compressed gases through compliance with federal and state requirements

Monitor, measure and report on production related issues

Develop and maintain sample receiving system and log

Set daily operational direction for the work team

Model and promote a customer focused culture within the team

Anticipate, troubleshoot, and resolve problems associated with work within the laboratory setting, including occasional off-hours responses to laboratory emergencies.

Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary lab team, fostering a culture of accuracy, efficiency, and continuous improvement

Collaborate regularly with team to identify and address any workflow bottlenecks, inefficiencies, opportunities for process improvement, and logistical or administrative issues in the lab

Communicate and collaborate with various departments to identify, troubleshoot and resolve any issues to ensure on-time delivery to the customer

Train staff on basic laboratory skills and run lab orientation for all new hires.

Empower and continuously motivate their team, to get the most creative thinking from the team

Participate in meetings with staff, management and/or customers to address any concerns related to the Laboratory

Effectively Communicate by being consistent, authentic and transparent

Conduct regular performance reviews and provide feedback and coaching on an ongoing basis

Perform additional duties as assigned
Qualifications:

BS/BA degree in Biology/Chemistry or a related field

Minimum 3 years supervisory experience or management experience

Minimum 3-5 years of experience in an environmental testing laboratory

Extensive knowledge of environmental testing, proficiency in laboratory information systems and technology, and a strong understanding of regulatory standards and compliance

Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities

Effective Communication and Management skills with proven track record of success
