Environmental Scientist

A full time position is available at the level of Environmental Scientist I for a recent graduate in the biological sciences. Bend Genetics, LLC is an environmental services laboratory that specializes in all aspects of harmful algal bloom monitoring. Harmful algal blooms, or HABs, can produce toxins of public health concern that may impair surface waters used for drinking or recreation. The candidate will provide assistance with a variety of tasks, including:

• Sample processing (e.g., weighing and/or filtering, DNA extraction, etc.)
• Molecular (e.g., qPCR) and enzymatic analyses (e.g., ELISA)
• Microscopy (e.g., phytoplankton identification and cell counting)
• Fluorometery (e.g., chlorophyll a analysis)
• Laboratory QA/QC and data entry
• Other routine laboratory tasks as needed

Qualifications

• Good understanding of biological concepts and willingness to advance knowledge of limnology, microbial genetics, and public health principles
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office is required
• Strong analytical, conceptual, communication and organizational skills
• Ability to work and thrive in a team environment
• Ability to self-motivate and work productively without supervision.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
