JOB SUMMARY: The Environmental Scientist I is responsible for participating in a wide range of projects. The successful candidate will have the knowledge, experience, and/or willingness to learn how to successfully provide clients with a variety of environmental services including wetland delineations, restorations, permitting, design, and mitigation projects.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential job functions:
Perform wetland delineation/monitoring, threatened and endangered species/habitat regulatory compliance activities, regulatory environmental consultation activities and environmental inspections for construction monitoring
Perform field sampling, data collection, compiling and organizing field data, field equipment operation, completing daily reports, photo documenting site conditions, flagging rare plant populations for avoidance, and other field activities associated with environmental projects
Responsible for writing professional/technical documents and reports
Quantitative and qualitative evaluation of wetlands and other ecological communities
Written documentation of compliance/non-compliance with resource protection measures
Ensure operating procedure management tasks are recorded and standardized
Create a workflow planning schedule; ensure task completion in accordance with the project timeline
Work independently and/or in a team setting on projects ranging from small to medium and assist senior staff on larger projects
Liaison between clients and regulatory agencies, using effective, clear, and accurate communication skills
Maintain familiarity with how various client needs are prioritized and capitalized.
Assist in conducting the appropriate training/research for a project. Scope out tasks needed to complete projects and meet/exceed client needs
Maintain regular and punctual attendance at work and meetings
Support, actively participate, and act in accordance with Wright’s and Eocene Environmental Group's culture of safety and employee ownership
Comply with applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations; maintains knowledge of and follows all company policies and procedures

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, or related/similar field
1-2 years of experience in the environmental field
Effective and concise communication and professional writing skills
Highly organized and independently motivated
Proficient with Microsoft Office products, including Teams, SharePoint, Outlook, Word, and Excel
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Familiarity with key environmental regulations and permitting processes, including the Clean Water Act (Sections 401/404), Endangered Species Act, NEPA, and Clean Air Act
Knowledge of USACE Wetland Delineation Manual and Regional Supplements
Understanding of EPA programs and regulations (e.g., Brownfields, NPDES, RCRA, SPCC)
Ability to explain environmental regulations; natural resources permitting experience is a plus
Experience with wetland delineation, mitigation, restoration, and monitoring
Experience conducting biological surveys (botanical, avian/raptor, bat)
Knowledge of Environmental Management Systems (EMSs) and hazardous materials/waste inspections (including lead, asbestos, radon)
Familiarity with regional ecology (Great Plains/Midwest habitats, soils, vegetation)
Experience in natural areas and conservation restoration practices.
Proficient with ArcGIS Pro, Field Maps, Survey123, and GPS field data collection
Able to operate mid-sized equipment such as UTVs
PHYSICAL/ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds
Must be able to carry field equipment during outdoor work, including backpack, spade shovel, soil probe, handheld GPS equipment
Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions in outdoor environments
Prolonged periods of standing or walking, including long distances in irregular and/or uneven terrain
