FUNCTION:
THE ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES AIDE PERFORMS THE DAY-TO-DAY ACTIVITIES OF THE
HOUSEKEEPING DEPARTMENT IN ACCORDANCE WITH FEDERAL, STATE, AND LOCAL STANDARDS,
GUIDELINES, AND REGULATIONS GOVERNING OUR FACILITY. THESE MAY BE DIRECTED BY THE
ADMINISTRATOR AND/OR THE ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES DIRECTOR TO ASSURE THAT OUR FACILITY IS
MAINTANED IN A CLEAN, SAFE, AND SANITARY MANNER.
REPORTS TO:
ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES DIRECTOR
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. POSSESSES THE ABILITY TO MAKE INDEPENDENT DECISIONS, FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS, AND
ACCEPT CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM.
2. POSSESSES THE ABILITY TO INTERACT TACTFULLY WITH PERSONNEL, RESIDENTS, FAMILY
MEMBERS, VISITORS, AND GOVERNMENT AGENCIES.
3. MAINTAINS THE CARE AND USE OF SUPPLIES AND EQUIPMENT AND MAINTAINS THE
APPEARANCE OF WORK AREAS FOR SANITATION, ORDER, AND SAFETY.
4. MUST BE WILLING TO WORK HARMONIOUSLY WITH OTHER PERSONNEL AND RESIDENTS.
5. MUST BE WILLING TO FOLLOW WRITTEN AND ORAL INSTRUCTIONS CONCERNING THE MIXTURE
OF CLEANING COMPOUNDS, LIQUIDS, CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS, ETC.
6. NO PRIOR EXPERIENCE REQUIRED. ON-THE-JOB TRAINING WILL BE PROVIDED.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. CLEANS/POLISHES FURNISHING, LEDGE, ROOM HEATING/COOLING UNITS IN COMMON AREAS
DAILY OR AS INSTRUCTED.
2. CLEANS, WASHES, SANITIZES, AND/OR POLISHES BATHROOM FIXTURES IN STAFF/CENTRAL
BATHROOMS.
3. CLEANS CORRIDOR/ELEVATOR FLOORS, INCLUDING VACUUMING AND SPOT CLEANING ALL
COMMON AREAS.
4. CLEANS WALLS AND CEILING BY WASHING, WIPING, DUSTING, SPOT CLEANING, DISINFECTING,
AND DEODORIZING IN COMMON AREAS.
5. REMOVES DIRT, DUST, GREASE, AND FILM FROM SURFACES USED PROPER
CLEANING/DISINFECTING SOLUTIONS IN HALLWAYS AND ELEVATORS.
6. DISCARDS WASTE/TRASH INTO PROPER CONTAINER AND RE-LINES TRASH RECEPTACLE WITH
PLASTIC LINER.
7. LOW-DUST, BUFF, STRIP-WAX CORRIDOR AND RESIDENT ROOMS AS NEEDED.
8. ASSURE THAT EQUIPMENT IS CLEANED AND PROPERLY STORED AT THE END OF THE SHIFT.
9. REMOVE SOILED LINEN AND DELIVER TO LAUNDRY.
10. ASSURE THAT ASSIGNED WORK AREAS ARE MAINTAINED IN A CLEAN, SAFE, COMFORTABLE, AND
ATTRACTIVE MANNER.
11. CLEAN WORK/SUPPLY CARTS AND EQUIPMENT AS NEEDED.
12. ATTEND AND PARTICIPAATE IN IN-SERVICE EDUCATIONAL CLASSES AND ON-THE-JOB TRAINING
PROGRAMS AS SCHEDULED OR DIRECTED.
13. CLEAN VACANT ROOMS AS ASSIGNED.
14. KEEP WORK AREAS FREE OF HAXAROUD OBJECTS, SUCH AS PROTRUDING MOP/BROOM
HANDLES, UNNECESSARY EQUIPMENT, AND SUPPLIES.
15. TURN IN ALL LOST AND FOUND ITEMS TO SUPERVISOR.
16. REPORT BURNED OUT LIGHTBULBS, EXIT LIGHTS, OVERHEAD LIGHTS, AND FLORESCENT LIGHTS
TO SUPERVISOR.
17. ASSURE THAT ESTABLISHED INFECTION CONTROL AND UNIVERSAL PRECAUTION PRACTICES
ARE FOLLOWED.
18. FOLLOW ESTABLISHED FIRE SAFTEY POLICIES AND PROCEDURES.
19. REPORT ALL ACCIDENTS AND INCIDIENTS TO SUPERVISOR NO MATTER HOW MINOR.
20. MAINTAIN THE CONFIDENTIALITY OF RESIDENTS’ INFORMATION AND HONOR THEIR PERSONAL
PROPERTY.
21. KEEP SUPERVISOR INFORMED OF SUPPLY NEEDS.
22. ASSURE THAT EQUIPMENT, TOOLS, AND SUPPLIES ARE PROPERLY STORED AT ALL TIMES,
INCLUDING BEFORE LEAVING AREAS FOR BREAKS, MEALTIMES, AND END OF THE WORKDAY.

AND VISITORS.
6. FREQUENTLY LIFT AND/OR MOVE WEIGHT MORE THAN TWENTY-FIVE (25) POUNDS.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
THE WORKING CONDITIONS DESCRIBED ARE REPRESENTATIVE OF THOSE THAT THE EMPLOYEE WILL BE
SUBJECT TO DURING A NORMAL WORKDAY, INCLUDING:
1. WORKING IN ALL AREAS OF THE FACILITY.
2. SITTING, STANDING, BENDING, LIFTING, AND MOVING INTERMITTENTLY DURING WORKING
HOURS.
3. BEING SUBJECT TO FREQUENT INTERRUPTIONS AND NEEDING TO RESCHEDULE HOUSEKEEPING
ACTIVITIES.
4. BEING INVOLVED WITH RESIDENTS, PERSONNEL, VISITORS, GOVERNMENT AGENCIES UNDER
CERTAIN CONDITIONS AND CIRCUMSTANCES.
5. BEING SUBJECT TO HOSTILE AND EMOTIONALLY UPSET RESIDENTS, FAMILY MEMBERS, ETC.
6. COMMUNICATING WITH HOUSEKEEPING PERSONNEL AND OTHER DEPARTMENTS.
7. BEING WILLING TO WORK BEYOND NORMAL WORKING HOURS AND TEMPORARILY IN OTHER
POSITIONS WHEN NECESSARY.
8. BEING WILLING TO WORK ON WEEKENDS, HOLIDAYS, AND OTHER SHIFTS AS NEEDED.
9. BEING SUBJECT TO FALLS, BURNS FROM EQUIPMENT, ODORS, ETC. THROUGHOUT THE
WORKDAY.
10. BEING SUBJECT TO REACTIONS FROM DUST, DISINFECTANTS, ETC.
11. POTENTIAL EXPOSURE TO INFECTIOUS WASTE, DISEASES, CONDITIONS, ETC. INCLUDING
EXPOSURE TO THE AIDS AND HEPATITIS B VIRUSES.
