Equipment Dealership Controller

Overview

The Dealership Controller is the senior accounting and finance leader at Tennessee Valley Equipment, responsible for the integrity of the company’s financial statements, internal controls, cash management, and reporting to ownership. The Controller leads the day-to-day accounting team, partners with the General Manager and department heads on operating performance, and serves as project owner for a planned migration from QuickBooks Online to e-Emphasys (DIS) dealership management software. The successful candidate brings the rigor of a CPA-trained controller and the operational mindset of someone who has stood up an ERP in a dealership environment.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all aspects of dealership accounting, including general ledger management, accounts payable and receivable, and payroll processing.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles), IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards), SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley Act), and other regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct balance sheet reconciliations, account analysis, and account reconciliation to maintain accurate financial records.
  • Prepare detailed financial reports, including monthly, quarterly, and annual statements, highlighting key insights for management review.
  • Manage cash flow forecasting, cash management activities, and banking relationships to optimize liquidity.
  • Coordinate regulatory reporting obligations and ensure timely submission of financial statements to relevant authorities.
  • Utilize accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, or similar platforms to streamline financial processes and improve data accuracy.
  • Support budgeting activities by analyzing variances and providing forecasts to aid strategic planning.
  • Perform technical accounting tasks related to governmental and non-profit sectors when applicable.
  • Lead internal audits and assist with external audits to ensure transparency and compliance across all financial operations.

Skills

  • Extensive knowledge of GAAP, IFRS, SOX compliance, and governmental or non-profit accounting standards.
  • Strong expertise in financial concepts such as double entry bookkeeping, debits & credits, balance sheet reconciliation, and account analysis.
  • Proficiency with accounting software including QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, or similar platforms; experience with financial management tools is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability in cash management, forecasting, and financial analysis to support sound decision-making.
  • Excellent skills in financial report writing and regulatory reporting procedures.
  • Solid understanding of general ledger accounting processes and technical accounting principles.
  • Experience managing accounts payable and receivable functions effectively while ensuring accuracy.
  • Ability to interpret complex financial data with strong analytical skills; attention to detail is essential.

Pay: $100,000.00 - $135,000.00 per year
