Equipment Mechanic

Applied Flooring is a commercial and industrial flooring contractor based in Mason, MI. We run seven crews installing polished concrete, sealed concrete, and resinous flooring systems for clients like Pfizer, Meijer, LG, and Neogen. Our equipment is the backbone of every job — and we’re looking for the person who keeps it running.

What you’d be doing

You’d be the go-to person for our fleet of planetary grinders, industrial vacuums, scrubbers, burnishers, hydraulic power trowels, and a long list of supporting equipment. Diagnosing problems, repairing what’s broken, doing preventative maintenance, and making sure the right machine is ready for the right job. You’d work out of our Mason shop with a company vehicle for parts runs and a company card so you’re never waiting on supplies. About 95% of your work is in the shop; the rare field call is within 25 minutes.

The honest pitch — and the honest reality

This role is different from a dealership or fleet shop. You won’t have other mechanics to bounce ideas off. You’ll be the expert. You’ll work with our office staff and our field crews — 30+ guys who come and go at all hours, sometimes grabbing things or fixing things in the middle of the night or on the way to a jobsite. They’re not trying to make your life harder; they’re trying to get in and out. The right person for this role gets that, rolls with it, and treats helping the crews as part of the work — not an interruption to it.

In return, you get real autonomy. We don’t micromanage. You’ll set your own schedule within reason — start at 7, start at 9, start at noon, we don’t care, as long as the equipment is ready when crews need it. You’ll get to investigate, diagnose, and solve problems with the full backing of leadership. When you need a tool, we buy it. When you need a part, you go get it.

What we’re looking for

  • Hands-on experience with small engines (this is a hard requirement — we don’t have anyone to teach you the basics)
  • Mechanical aptitude across electrical, hydraulic, and combustion systems
  • An investigative mind — someone who actually enjoys figuring out why something broke, not just swapping parts until it works
  • Self-direction — you’ll set your day and own the outcomes, we set the priority based on schedule.
  • A team-first attitude — you’ll be working alongside field crews and office staff, not other mechanics. Ability to stay even-keeled when the shop gets busy and chaotic is essential.
  • Valid driver’s license

Bonus points for

  • Experience with concrete grinding, polishing, or industrial cleaning equipment
  • Welding or fabrication skills
  • Experience working in a small-company environment where roles flex

What we offer

  • $21–$26/hr to start, with raises as you prove yourself
  • Health insurance, PTO, and 401k
  • Company vehicle for work-related trips (lives at the shop)
  • Flexible scheduling within a full-time role
  • Family-owned company that’s growing fast — equipment needs are growing with us, and the right person can grow into a larger role over time
  • Direct line to leadership; we work hard to empower the people who do the work
