Position Summary:
The Equipment Manager is responsible for the repair, maintenance, and overall management of all golf course maintenance equipment. This role oversees the preventive maintenance program, ensures equipment readiness for daily operations, and maintains accurate service and inventory records. The position plays a critical role in supporting course conditions and operational efficiency, including involvement in equipment selection and long-term fleet planning.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
· Perform diagnostics, repair, and preventive maintenance on all golf course equipment
· Lubricate, service, adjust, and overhaul equipment as needed
· Maintain sharp cutting units, including reel mower blade maintenance
· Inspect equipment daily for operational deficiencies and safety concerns
· Maintain detailed service logs, repair records, and maintenance schedules
· Manage inventory of parts, tools, and supplies; order as needed
· Establish and enforce safe equipment operation and shop procedures
· Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
· Perform welding, fabrication, and repairs to hydraulic and electrical systems
· Respond to emergency repair needs both in and out of the shop
· Conduct daily checks of course related to equipment performance (e.g., quality of cut)
· Assist in training staff on proper equipment use and care
· Communicate equipment needs, issues, and recommendations to leadership
· Participate in equipment evaluation and purchasing decisions
· Attend staff meetings and support department initiatives
· Perform other duties as assigned by the Golf Course Superintendent
Qualifications and Education:
· Must be at least 18 years of age
· Vocational or technical training in mechanics, small engine repair, or related field preferred
· 4–6 years of mechanical experience required; golf course equipment experience strongly preferred
· Knowledge of reel mowers, hydraulic systems, and electrical systems
· Valid driver’s license required
· Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability
· High attention to detail and proactive problem-solving
· Ability to anticipate and prevent equipment issues
· Strong organizational and recordkeeping skills
· Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively
· Understanding of how equipment performance impacts golf course conditions
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
· Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts and outdoor weather conditions
· Frequent exposure to fumes, chemicals, and airborne particles
· Occasional exposure to extreme temperatures, wet conditions, heights, and vibration
· Frequent lifting, bending, climbing, stooping, and repetitive motion
· Continuous standing and walking
· Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required (e.g., gloves, eye protection, hearing protection, respirators)
Compensation and Benefits:
· Salary starting at $65,000+, based on experience
