Equipment Mechanic

JOB DESCRIPTION

The mechanic reports to the Equipment Manager and helps oversee a comprehensive preventive maintenance program. This program includes the repair of failing equipment, keeping records of parts and labor needed to maintain each piece of equipment, and placing orders for parts and supplies needed for equipment or service. The equipment mechanic properly communicates any needs or problems relating to the maintenance or repair of equipment to the Equipment manager or Director of Agronomy, and schedules and directs the work assignments of the equipment manager. The equipment mechanic places safety as a top priority and is responsible for maintaining a clean service area and maintenance building.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Adhere to all the various written mandatory standards of operation, policies and procedures, manuals, memos, oral instruction, etc., all of which go to make up the essential functions of the job.
  • Display a positive attitude and motivate all employees to exceed.
  • The incumbent assists the Equipment Manager.
  • Does work overhauling and repairing automotive and powered equipment including engines, brakes, transmissions, differentials, springs and mufflers; secures and replaces tools and parts.
  • Cleans working areas after repairs are completed; assists in electric gas welding; lubricates and services automotive equipment.
  • Inspect equipment for operating deficiencies and make routine adjustment where necessary.
  • Fills automotive equipment with fuel and checks fluid levels; inspects, changes and repairs tires; maintains mileage reports.
  • May do body repair and painting work; repairs and adjusts the engines and cutting mechanisms of a wide variety of heavy and light mowing equipment.

QUALIFICATIONSSKILLS

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Must have one to three months of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must have working knowledge of light and heavy maintenance equipment and automotive apparatus; skill in the use of a wide variety of equipment repair tools, and the making various types of mechanical repair; knowledge of the theory, care and operation of internal combustion engines; ability to diagnose mechanical troubles and determine appropriate maintenance work; ability to communicate effectively and keep business records. Requires a valid driver's license.
  • Must be able to pass a background check.
  • Must be able to maintain a professional status through interface with customers.
  • Must be able to maintain a professional working relationship with management and co-workers.
  • Must be able to work flexible schedules.
  • Must be willing to "pitch-in" and help co- workers with their job duties and be a team player.
  • Must be able to withstand prolonged periods of standing and/or walking.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly is required to stand and walk for extended periods; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee occasionally is required to sit; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and lift more than 50lbs. Physical stamina and a proper mental attitude to work under pressure at a fast pace are essential. Must have the mental fortitude to handle the pressures of multiple tasks while providing excellent guest service.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is generally performed outside, exposure to heat, cold, rain and snow. Early mornings, holiday and/or weekend work are required. Extended hours and irregular shifts are required.
