General Description:
The purpose of this class within the organization is to perform intermediate to complex maintenance work and operate and maintain light and heavy construction equipment.
This class works under close supervision according to set procedures.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this job/class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job/class as necessary.
Essential Functions:
Performs semi-skilled maintenance work related to construction in areas such as roads/sidewalks, drainage structures, and utilities infrastructures.
Operates light and heavy equipment such as lawn mowers, tractor-bush hogs, clam and dump trucks, backhoes, loaders, excavators, and other equipment as assigned; loads and unloads materials, supplies, and equipment.
Keeps accurate records and submits reports on initial and completed work orders.
Performs manual labor and/or repairs on construction tasks when not operating equipment.
Handles a variety of manual and power tools.
Maintains the safe and efficient operation of equipment including regular inspection of tires, oil, fuel, brakes, hydraulic lines, steering, and other specified items.
Additional Duties:
On-Call Rotation for weekends and events
Assists with traffic control duties such as closing roads, setting up detours, or barricading a location and sets up work zones.
Responds to emergency calls while “on call” to repair equipment as needed.
Performs related work as assigned.

Reads simple sentences, instructions or work orders; writes simple sentences and completes simple job forms; speaks simple sentences using basic grammar.
Judgment Requirements:
Decision-making is focus of the job, affecting entire organization and surrounding population; works in an unstable environment with frequent and significant changes in conditions.
Complexity of Work:
Performs semi-skilled work involving set procedures and rules, but with frequent problems; requires normal attention with short periods of concentration for accurate results or occasional exposure to unusual pressure.
Impact of Errors:
The impact of errors is moderate – affects those in work unit.
Physical Demands:
Performs light to medium work that involves walking or standing virtually all of the time and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or considerable skill, adeptness and speed in the use of the fingers, hands or limbs in tasks involving close tolerances or limits of accuracy.
Equipment Usage:
Leads or handles machines, tools, equipment or work aids involving moderate latitude for judgment regarding attainment of a standard or in selecting appropriate items.
Unavoidable Hazards:
Involves routine and frequent exposure to electrical shocks; heights.
Safety of Others:(Does not include safety of subordinates).
Requires responsibility for the safety and health of others and for occasional enforcement of the laws and standards of public health and safety.
