Summary

The Equipment Testing Engineer is an entry-level position focused on testing conveyance and other equipment to meet customer standards and requirements for warehouse and distribution automation equipment. This position is responsible for executing testing with an approach that is efficient and complete. The Equipment Testing Engineer is expected to perform the job with a continuous awareness of the effect their work has on all other disciplines in the engineering and build of the automated systems. Good communication and cooperation with peers and management is a persistent requirement for this position.

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

· Requires Knowledge of Electrical and Pneumatic systems.

· Familiarity with code or coding, and willingness to learn PLC code.

· Ability to understand Code Logic, HMIs, configure and test devices.

· Ability to read, comprehend, and follow/implement specific customer standards relating to controls design.

· Requires fundamental problem-solving skills to diagnose and resolve basic technical issues related to software applications, hardware devices, and network connectivity.

· Ability to commission / debug automation systems.

· Ability to interface with mechanical Design, shop trades and customers.

· Ability to communicate professionally.

· Must be able to use the Microsoft suite of products. i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint.

· Experience with automation equipment is a plus.

· Candidate should be familiar with common hand tools (i.e. screw drivers, adjustable wrenches, Allen keys, ratchets, drill motors, etc.) that will be used on a daily basis.

Assists in helping monitor project delivery dates, changes and standards with both in-house and outsourced designs.

Ensures engineering compliance and company awareness with all customer specifications.

Works directly with Testing Engineers, Shop Trades, Project Management and Customers on timing & issues.

Understands and follows safety & environmental regulations and identifies safety/environmental concerns.

Adheres to the Quality System and participates in continuous improvement.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor's degree (B.S.) from a four-year college or university in a related field such as Electrical Engineering or Computer Science is preferred; or two to four years of related hands-on experience in electrical and/or pneumatic systems with an aptitude for computers, coding, or similar fields; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Candidates with real-world hands-on electrical and/or pneumatic experience will also be highly considered. This is a relatively entry-level position.

Language Skills

Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and CAD annotations and tolerances.

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Computer Skills

· Proficient in Microsoft applications including Outlook, Word, “MS Excel”, PowerPoint.

· Understanding of code and code applications is preferred.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations.

Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

The employee will be required to work overtime on a consistent basis for up to 50 hours per week.

Travel Requirements

Local travel to UTEC facilities and customer/supplier sites for meetings or support is rarely required.

Travel requirements may vary based on project assignments and department workloads.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour
