JOB SUMMARY

The Registered Nurse – ER provides individualized, goal-oriented nursing care using the nursing process and principles of primary nursing in the emergency department. Delivers safe, timely, and effective care in accordance with departmental and hospital policies, procedures, and best practices.

QUALIFICATIONS

Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing

Current WY RN license

BLS, ACLS, and PALS certification

TNCC certification within 6 months of hire

RESPONSIBILITIES:


1. Assess and diagnose patient and family needs upon arrival; perform timely triage and admissions assessment; identify all teaching, discharge planning, and follow-up needs.

2. Develop individualized plans of care for each patient, coordinating with families to address all identified needs, including teaching and discharge plans.

3. Implement medical and nursing interventions/procedures; administer, transcribe, and record medications accurately.

4. Perform IV therapy, blood transfusions, and follow all hospital protocols. Demonstrate proficiency in medication and treatment administration and documentation.

5. Evaluate and reassess patients’ responses to interventions, modifying care plans as needed to ensure quality outcomes.

6. Maintain up-to-date, accurate documentation for all nursing actions, patient assessments, interventions, medication administration, referrals, and care coordination.

7. Function as a role model for new and existing staff, facilitating teamwork, and problem resolution.

8. Deliver specialized nursing care as required by the ER, including trauma, emergencies, and care for all age groups from neonates to geriatrics.

9. Attend all required safety training, demonstrate compliance with policies/procedures for safety, infection control, and equipment operation.

10. Uphold the hospital’s exposure control plans and use appropriate PPE; ensure a safe environment for all.

11. Demonstrate respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and team members, model professionalism, confidentiality, and a positive attitude.

12. Promote effective working relations and participate in staff meetings, department initiatives, and effective communication between units.

13. Perform selected managerial duties delegated by the Nurse Manager, which may include scheduling, staff feedback, payroll, and acting as a clinical resource.

14. Monitor daily personnel assignments and provide leadership in patient care, rounding on patients and communicating essential information.

15. Behave and dress in a professional and courteous manner consistent with the facilities Standards of Behavior.

16. Perform other duties as assigned.
