About the Role

We are recruiting on behalf of a global client for an ESG Lawyer (Compliance Counsel) to provide expert guidance on environmental, sustainability, and regulatory compliance matters across international operations.

This is a key role supporting a multinational energy business, offering practical, business-focused legal advice across complex, multi-jurisdictional frameworks.


This would be working out of their office in Saudia Arabia and is ideal for someone looking for a life and work adventure, but still be able to advise and deal with some of the most interesting/complex environmental and sustainability issues globally.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide legal advice on global environmental, sustainability, and ESG compliance requirements
  • Advise on multi-jurisdictional regulations including climate change, air emissions, water discharges, waste management, natural resources, and biodiversity matters
  • Support permitting and regulatory compliance across U.S., EU, and UK frameworks
  • Develop and implement environmental compliance programs, including self-audit processes
  • Monitor regulatory developments and maintain up-to-date compliance policies and procedures
  • Support global operations, subsidiaries, and joint ventures with compliance counseling
  • Engage with regulators and oversee commitments arising from enforcement actions
  • Identify compliance risks and gaps, and implement mitigation strategies
  • Develop and deliver ESG and environmental compliance training programs
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders and leadership to drive implementation of legal requirements
  • Support due diligence, third-party monitoring, and compliance systems development
  • Provide oversight during compliance reviews and manage external counsel as needed


Requirements

  • Qualified lawyer in good standing in the US, UK, EU, or Canada
  • Law degree from an accredited institution (U.S. qualification preferred)
  • 6+ years’ experience in environmental and regulatory compliance within a multinational environment
  • Strong knowledge of global environmental and sustainability regulations (U.S., EU, and/or UK)
  • Experience advising on ESG, climate, and environmental compliance frameworks
  • Commercial, pragmatic mindset with strong stakeholder engagement skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • High ethical standards and sound professional judgment
