The English Language Learner Coordinator/Teacher supports the broad ELL program on the Harveston campus. They are responsible for administering the testing (including training and preparation), managing caseloads, supporting EL teams and their needs, as well as managing students entry and exit data. In the teaching function, they create lesson plans that target specific ELP standards based on the student’s proficiency and grade level, monitor student progress to promote student language acquisition, and align with all required instructional minutes per guidelines from the Louisiana Department of Education and Great Hearts America.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Schedule, plan and lead meetings with parents, English language teacher, general education teacher, and PEA for student programming.
  • 25% to 50% of the El Coordinator's time will be providing direct instruction to students
  • Monitor students’ progress to goals and tests performance.
  • Plan instruction for students based on their testing results and current levels of performance
  • Plan, schedule, and administer testing (including training, preparation and parent communication)
  • Enter and exit EL students from SAIS
  • Maintain the EL Caseload
  • Ensure general education teachers supporting EL students are SEI trained with the support of the Assistant Headmaster
  • Design lesson plans for integrated and targeted to ensure compliance
  • Coordinate campus audits of English Language compliance
  • Attend grade-level and subject-level meetings to help plan integrated EL instruction
  • Collaborate with teachers to determine students’ strengths and weaknesses for lesson planning
  • Write quarterly reports on students’ progress
  • Create and maintain a schedule for targeted instruction time with PEA and grade-level teachers
  • Collaborate with teachers to identify and implement any accommodations necessary for the student to access the curriculum
  • Participate in professional development opportunities on campus and regionally

Requirements:

  • Candidates must hold at least a bachelor’s degree and a valid Louisiana Department of Education teaching certification, with an SEI or EL Endorsement (or the equivalent SEI or EL training)
  • Minimum of 1 year of EL experience; 3 years preferred
  • Candidates must be proficient in the use of technology.

  • Employment is subject to passing a fingerprint criminal history check, from the Louisiana State Bureau of Criminal Identification
  • Physical functions: Requires but is not limited to standing, sitting, repetitious hand and body movements, bending, squatting, and reaching. May be required to move or position equipment up to 15 pounds approximately.
  • Travel required: May need to travel to other GH regions (Texas, Arizona, Florida) .
