SUMMARY
The ESL Paraprofessional supports English language learners by providing instructional assistance, language development support, and individualized tutoring. This role collaborates with teachers and staff to ensure that students acquire language proficiency and succeed academically.
ESSTENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITES include the following:

Assist ELL students individually or in groups to reinforce language and academic skills.

Support classroom instruction by helping students understand and complete assignments.

Implement lesson plans and instructional activities as directed by the ESL teacher or coordinator.

Facilitate communication between students, teachers, and parents by providing language translation and interpretation services.

Assist in assessing students' language proficiency and monitor progress through observations and assessments.
-
Prepare learning materials and resources under the guidance of the ESL teacher.
-
Encourage positive social interactions and cultural understanding among students.
-
Maintain accurate records of student progress and attendance.
-
Participate in professional development and training related to ESL strategies and methods.
-
Assist with classroom management and maintain a safe, inclusive learning environment.
-
Other duties may be assigned.

High school diploma or equivalent.

Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) Paraprofessional endorsement, Short-Term Paraprofessional Educator Endorsement or PEL License, required.

Experience working with English language learners or diverse student populations is preferred .

Fluent in Arabic/Spanish and English with strong communication and interpersonal skills
-
Candidates must successfully pass a job-related proficiency test prior to employment. This test is designed to assess basic reading and writing skills.

Basic knowledge of language acquisition and instructional strategies.
-
Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, staff, and parents.
-
Cultural sensitivity and awareness.
-
Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professionalism.
-
Valid Driver's License
Knowledge of:
Policies and objectives of assigned programs
School site and assigned, policies and procedures
Basic principals and techniques of education
Correct English usage
Experience in using iPads/Macbook programs such as Google platform, SeeSaw, Quizlet, etc.
Ability to:
Prepare a variety of records and reports.
Assist teachers in classroom education activities
Supervise students at recess and entering and exiting buses.
Establish and maintain effective relationships with others.
Communicate effectively orally and in writing.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to students, parents, and other employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written and oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few variables in standardized situations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in inside environmental conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to video display and outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
