Esports Coach & Student Life Communications Coordinator (Part-Time)

South Piedmont Community College is seeking a dynamic and student-centered Part-Time Esports Coach to lead the growth and development of the College’s newly established Esports program. In coordination with the Director of Student Life, Engagement and Leadership, this position is responsible for managing daily Esports operations, supporting recruitment and team development, overseeing intramural play, and serving as the advisor to the Esports Club.
In addition to coaching responsibilities, this role will support Student Life marketing and communications to strengthen outreach, improve internal processes, and ensure consistent, professional messaging across campus platforms.
This position requires evening and occasional weekend availability.

Essential Duties Summary
Primary Responsibilities
Esports Program Leadership
  • Dedicate a minimum of five (10) hours per week during the season for practices, competitions, and leadership meetings
  • Manage daily operations of the SPCC Esports program
  • Support recruitment efforts, host tryouts, and assist in the selection of team captains for the intramural competitions
  • Field up to two teams per assigned game each intramural season
  • Attend all in-person practices and competitions hosted on campus; coordinate remote play as needed
  • Develop and implement a recruiting plan consistent with institutional, regional, and conference regulations
  • Enforce rules and standards set by affiliated conferences and organizations, including NJCAAE and partner institutions
  • Serve as Advisor to the Esports Club
  • Set up and manage Twitch streams prior to competitions
  • Maintain team communication through Discord and ensure timely updates
  • Assist with social media content creation related to Esports activities


Games may include Overwatch, Rocket League, Valorant, and additional titles based on student interest.
Student Life Marketing & Communications Support
  • Maintain and update campus digital signage
  • Compile, proof, and distribute the weekly “Week at a Glance”
  • Review and proof SGA and Student Life marketing materials
  • Ensure ADA compliance and alignment with institutional branding standards
  • Serve as liaison between Student Life and SPCC Marketing
  • Coordinate print shop submissions and material pickup
  • Assist in strengthening workflow systems and communication consistency

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Strong familiarity with Discord and gaming communication platforms
  • Understanding of Esports recruiting and competitive team development
  • Familiarity with conference and NJCAAE policies preferred
  • Strong written communication and proofreading skills
  • High attention to detail
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong interpersonal skills and team collaboration ability
  • Clean and professional social media presence
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office products
  • Reliable transportation and scheduling flexibility
  • Willingness to learn institutional marketing and ADA standards

Required Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree
  • Prior coaching experience or competitive esports team experience
  • Demonstrated reliability and strong professional work ethic
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional standards
  • Ability to work evenings and occasional weekends


Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Proven experience coaching esports teams or managing esports organizations
  • Experience in marketing, communications, or event support
  • Experience with student engagement initiatives
