Position Overview
The Estimator / Quantity Surveyor plays a key role in ensuring the financial success of our renovation and maintenance projects. This role involves preparing accurate cost estimates, conducting detailed quantity take-offs, and managing all aspects of cost control and budget management for various projects. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, an eye for detail, and a deep understanding of construction and maintenance costs.
Key Responsibilities
- Cost Estimation:
- Prepare accurate, detailed cost estimates for renovation, repair, and maintenance projects, including labor, materials, and overheads.
- Analyze project blueprints, drawings, and specifications to generate quantity take-offs and cost breakdowns.
- Work closely with project managers and site supervisors to understand project scope and requirements.
- Tender Preparation:
- Assist in preparing tender submissions and proposals for both private and public sector projects.
- Review tender documentation and make recommendations based on cost implications.
- Collaborate with the sales team to ensure competitive and accurate pricing for proposals.
- Contract Administration:
- Assist in the preparation and management of contracts, ensuring terms and conditions align with project costs and scope.
- Prepare cost plans, cash flows, and budgets for projects.
- Cost Control & Monitoring:
- Track project costs throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring compliance with budgets.
- Prepare regular cost reports and financial forecasts for senior management.
- Monitor the performance of contractors and subcontractors in terms of cost, ensuring quality control and minimizing cost overruns.
- Value Engineering & Cost Optimization:
- Identify opportunities for cost-saving measures without compromising on quality.
- Provide advice on alternative materials or construction methods to improve cost efficiency.
- Site Visits & Assessments:
- Conduct site visits to assess the scope of work, project progress, and verify quantities.
- Collaborate with site supervisors and contractors to resolve any discrepancies or changes in quantities or materials.
- Client & Vendor Liaison:
- Work closely with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors to ensure smooth procurement processes and clear communication regarding costs and timelines.
- Maintain strong relationships with suppliers and vendors to negotiate the best pricing and terms.
- Documentation & Reporting:
- Maintain accurate and organized records of estimates, change orders, and other relevant documents.
- Produce reports on project costs, value analysis, and budget updates for senior management and clients.
- Risk Management:
- Assist in identifying potential risks and developing strategies to mitigate cost escalations during the project lifecycle.
Qualifications
- Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Professional qualifications (e.g., MRICS, MCIOB) would be advantageous.
- Experience:
- 2–5 years of experience as an Estimator or Quantity Surveyor in the construction, renovation, or maintenance sector.
- Experience with cost estimation software and tools (e.g., Buildsoft, CostX, Excel).
- Familiarity with construction contracts (e.g., FIDIC, JCT) and the tendering process.
- Skills & Competencies:
- Strong understanding of construction processes, materials, and labor costs.
- High attention to detail and accuracy in calculations and cost breakdowns.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel) and relevant quantity surveying software.
- Language Skills:
- Proficiency in English is essential. Knowledge of Arabic is an advantage but not required.
